god bless both of you I have been there

It's a beautiful mornig. We had a hard rain shower just after dawn but now the sun is out and we have a nice cool breeze.
Sitting here in the recliner with coffee in hand and my Angel puppy curled up in peaceful sleep between my knees. I'm trying hard not to stare at the clock as I wait for the time to leave to go back to the vet's office. I'm praying she stumbled across some answer since Saturday. We shall find out soon I guess,
I HATE WAITING!!! I am generally a very patient person but NOT NOW!

Guess I need to go outside and see if any of my zucchinis turned into baseball bats after the rain.

Have a great Monday everyone!!!

The Picture was to show how much I can see in an egg with the candler. I should candle the shipped eggs from yesterday with it and let you see the condition of the yolk.

I will work on that tonight!

Oh, thank you!

@TeaChick

That picture of the flapping rooster is marvelous!

Thank you!!! =)

I am uploading a video to vimeo of a hatching egg that has yolk damage.

I'm not very internet savvy; do you mind posting a link for me?

@TeaChick Negative reinforcement has it's uses too though. I think you just need a good balance.

For candling, I used a Ledlenser P7 CREE-LED flashlight, that really showed details in the eggs too. It's freaky when you see the heart beating.

I know, but it still makes me cry. Yes, balance.
I just use a plain old LED flashlight. I'd hate to have to try to use a candle inside a box like the olden days.

The video is ready!

You can see the pieces of the yolk in the egg.

Wow! That was fast!!! I hadn't even asked yet! =D
Thank you for posting this. I haven't candled shipped eggs; almost all the eggs I've incubated have been my own. I've only seen damage like that in my Cochin Bantam Frizzle's eggs, and that was when she had already half incubated them.

I fully understand. I have very convincing Grandchildren.

At least you can send them back home. lol

Negative Reinforcement is taking something away. I think you are talking about punishment.

Yes, punishment. Anything negative; I don't like taking things away either. It all makes me cry. Kids, dogs, etc. I start early enough that I don't have to do a lot of negative anything. =)

My son explained that to me! So even if you are giving a spanking to a child, and most of us think of that as 'Negative", you are actually giving them something so it is positive reinforcement.
Confusing.
I am still trying to get the puppy from barking so loudly at the older two dogs when she wants to play and they are worn out.
The only way to stop her from doing it is to take away the toys she has brought to them to tease them with. (They need their rest too.) So even tough that seems a nice way of doing it, it is negative reinforcement.
So the word negative has a negative connotation when actually it just means absent?

Yup. I hate it all!!!

So when my miniature horse nips at me, and I go, "Ah-AH!" and smack her, that's positive reinforcement? I mean, she knows she's asking for it; we had this conversation years ago and she's just trying to make sure that the pecking order hasn't changed . . . .

Your horse reinforces the pecking order...

So, maybe 'bad' and 'good' are confused with 'positive' and 'negative'.

The puppy will not come inside sometimes.
I go get her, pick her up, and carry her inside. This would never happen at my house.
Which she might actually enjoy the attention and ignore me just for the ride. This is why.

My husband grabs her by the collar and forces her up on her feet and walks her in. This seems like a more effective method of avoiding the dog learning that being stubborn is good b/c she gets a ride into the house.

My son goes and gets her squeaker toy and squeaks it and she come barreling in. This also doesn't happen at our house.
(Yea, He's a lot smarter than his parents)
But all of those scenes are Positive reinforcement? even the dragging her in by the collar technique? Yes, because you're adding something to the situation for the purpose of changing her behavior (behavior modification).

I am Impressed. I just try to grow those that someone else developed. There is nothing like a tomato sandwich made from fresh vine ropened tomatoes. As Brother Dave Gardner said, "Lift and eat quickly lest it falls through the bread.

Yum!

Awwwwww, I loved all the photos and the videos y'all posted. Thank you! Chickens got out last night in the dark but we caught them all!

Happy Saturday everyone

Glad you got them back!!!
Saturday?!?!?!? I'm way behind!

Spent most of the day at the emergency vets. Very long story short. Had an appointment for next week with my regular vet, couldn't get me in sooner. I had found a lump on the side of her head and she was running a low fever. This morning I looked into her eyes (definitely know yesterday they were fine) and choked a scream, yelled at my DH we are heading for the vet's NOW while he was trying to figure out what just happened I was diving for my going to town pants. (I have those too.)

One of her eyes was totally clouded over and the other looked "fuzzy". I knew something was very, very wrong.

Several hours and $600 later we had no clear answers what it is but a few of what it isn't. Could be Blastomycosis or an aggressive Lymphoma. Third possibility is acute Leukemia. Vet admits she's stumped, but not for lack of searching for an answer. The Hematology results were bazaar. After the bloodwork and looking at cells under the microscope were inconclusive, Blasto is looking less likely but the biopsy went off to the state vet lab anyway. If nothing else, it will narrow the search.

She was given several different drugs and we were sent home with more while we wait for more results. The old "shotgun" approach until we know what we are fighting. Within hours of coming home both eyes were completely white. My poor little baby girl. I am fighting to be strong for her but my heart is breaking as I hold her.
Please pray. I know, she's just a dog, but no she's not,,,, not to me.

I'm crying for you, Hon!!!
Lord, please help chickisoup be strong for her puppy. Please help them find out what's going on so they can help her get better. Your Will be done, Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
I know what you mean, she's not just a dog to you. I just lost my favorite chicken. If it had been any other chicken, I would have done a necropsy, but not her. She was not just a chicken to me.

This article has a lot of coffee history in it. I need to wait until tomorrow morning when I have a fresh cup to read it...

I second the idea of getting a cup of coffee to read that!!! Tomorrow morning would be better for me, I think.

Please keep us posted, Hon!

Yep, I've always been a "take things head on" kind of person. Always been able to handle just about anything (and there have been a few very big "anythings" in my life) if I know what it is I am fighting. This "it's better not to know" thing is for other people. How can you fight without knowing who (or what) your opponent is? I have been told I can charge into battle like a bull in a china shop sometimes, but I've never been accused of running the wrong way.

I am woman (mom, wife, nurse, protector of all living things, especially those belonging to me!, etc.....) hear me roar!!! hehehehehe.

I'm with you.

This is me too.
