Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

PS...The pepper peach jam looks delish. Do you make peach salsa?

I knew peppers were good for intestinal parasites but didn't know they had other medicinal value. I mostly grow them for fun... 30 different varieties with different levels of hotness. There are only a couple in the garden I'm afraid of right now

And for salsa, yep, did bottles of that too but I don't like the recipe I used so more salsa in the making next weekend... after my coffee and chicken time! :yiipchick

Yum love hot peppers! :drool
The medicine in them is what they put in the arthritis creams you rub on. The capsaicin is the compound that makes peppers hot. Good luck with your next batch of salsa. One can never have too much salsa. :D

Good evening everyone

Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time

I hope the pain lets up soon.

So, looks like fall is arriving in the northwoods. The cranes are beginning to gather in the harvested oat fields and I saw the first flock of Nighthawks making their annual stop over in our meadow yesterday. This morning the first V of geese flew over heading south. I love the fall, it's a shame we have such a short one.

I think one of my hens is dying and I have no clue why. She seemed fine yesterday and this morning.. Later I noticed her standing off by herself, something she never did. My 3 reds are always together. She seems to want to stay where there is a water dish. She came into the run with the rest tonight for her mealworm treat before lockup but when I went to lock them in the coop at dark, she was not on the roost but instead laying by herself on the catchboard near the wall. I thought at first she was dead but she responded when I petted her. I checked her over earlier and her face, comb etc. is normal and good color, there is no sign of parasites, they were wormed in the spring, she's showing no sign of being egg bound or sour crop and her respirations are normal. She has a slightly messy bum but she was one that was always had a bit looser caboose than the rest. I'm stumped.

All I can think to do is check her again in the morning. I didn't separate her yet as she is showing no sign of anything contagious.
I have to be gone most of the day tomorrow, I have the brain MRI and it is supposed to take quite a while and it's almost an hour just to get there. I'm not sure what to do with her while we're gone. Of course there is supposed to be more rain tomorrow, sigh.

At east the hen doesn't act like she is in any discomfort.

Yep..we are having that at my house too. One of our chicks, maybe you remember, was hatched with only one eye. The little thing was perky though, and did fine eating and drinking, so I let it live, hoping that it would be a female.

Well, it is a girl, but now, close to 6 months of age, she is having labored breathing. I am thinking that it must not have been only her eye that is messed up, it must be that something else is wrong with her as well, maybe her lungs, or a heart issue.

There is no sign of anyone else having any problems, which is why I am so sure it is just her, and nothing contagious.

Anyway.....OF COURSE, since she is so very recognizable, the kids have always kept an eye out for her, to make sure she isn't being bullied, and to make sure she gets enough to eat and drink.

So, she is called Captain Scar (or is it major scar? whatever).

Point is, she is sweet, and the kids dote on her...and these last few days I have been watching her closely...and I just do NOT think she is doing that well. We cleaned up the coop, the run, just EVERYTHING, hoping that maybe she is just more sensitive, and would do better in a perfectly clean environment.

Anyway....I think that she is getting worse. I am thinking I might should put her down if she doesn't show improvement.

Big and tall and rated for 450lbs YAy... Its designed for "This Fluffy Coffee drinking Peep" This is the First time I had enough money to actually get one designed for all my needs

For those who dont know I use a Rollator walker to get about. Even around the coop. Everywhere I do a bit of work I need a place to sit.

Morning, hope everyone feels better soon.

Alaskan, that's the trouble with the runts, you develop a soft spot for them.

Chicki, and the girl isn't just going broody or something? I know ours started behaving a bit weirdly before they took to sitting in the nests.

Deb, that chair looks pretty comfy. I should get my study together at some point, I'm still sitting in a wooden chair. It's a good one, and is surprisingly good for the back, but I sort of miss my old office chair that I got rid of when we moved. It was starting to fall apart.
