Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

There is a baking thread that does not have much traffic and whats for supper grandpa part two.

Personal threads are fun though and posting recipes here would be awesome!

Ron, Is there a way to bookmark threads on here. If you don't visit them regularly and post on them it is hard to go back and find them. Like the 2 above that you provided.

Perchie.girl ,

We had this awful thing in our neck of the woods called the FCAT. They started pushing the bright kids really hard really early. There were so many kids on anti anxiety meds in my son's elementary school... It was criminal.

The principal told me that even though the testing was developed to make sure no kid got left behind, the mechanism was made backwards. The schools with high grades got the money, the schools with low grades got cutbacks.
So to get the money, the best use of the schools' resources was to push the bright kids to make perfect scores and hope that the lower phased kids could be averaged up with the higher scores of others.
My son's fingers were bloody nubs from chewing on them, He wasn't sleeping, when he did he would cry out about some homework problem that made no sense to him. (second grade-binomial equations)

I finally decided that even though the school was pushing parents to the anti-anxiety drugs, I decided he needed less anxiety, and started homeschooling him.
They lost his high scores anyway. They should have helped a kid who needed it, that kid got left behind .

BUT MY POINT WAS- before I went off on my rant- the damage had been done. He needed to find coping mechanisms to help. He was seven, and I hated that the people I was supposed to TRUST did this to him.

Oils, primrose, flax, DEEP water fish oil ect. and some good vitamins really helped. Also, hypnosis. Tools to use to calm himself down before he unraveled.

He is a 4.0 kid too. The high school AP classes started to have a toll on him last year and I was seeing the freaking out start up again.- when we ran out of electrolyte mix. He drinks lots of waters with electrolytes in it. That seems to help him the most.

Driven kids are harder on themselves that normal kids.
There is something imperfect about their drive for perfection.
I wish they could relax and just blow off a day and play.

Hugs to you both, I hope he can relax and enjoy college.

The other sin is that they will do anything they can to get rid of those that are falling behind. Then society has to take care of them for the rest of their lives. I noticed years ago that the slower kids were divided into 3 classes and The best students were given the were given the best students and the slowest students were given the worst teachers the ones in the middle got the mediocre teachers. One of my kids friends was expelled from school because he made failing grades. I guess they figure it is not their problem and they don't have to deal with the statistics.

My way of book marking might be convoluted, but What i do is post one post saying that i plan on keeping an eye on this thread, then when I want to see what is going on, on it I go to the 'I've posted' drop down Box under the 'New posts' box that is in the grey strip that says' forum nav:' on top and bottom of threads.

subscribe to them and then they appear in your subscriptions. As each thread gets a new post, it will move to the top of the subscription list.

You can find the list by going to your profile and looking at the top right of the screen. click on subscriptions.

Here's two of my three babes and the third should be out by morning. The little yellow one has a naked neck like her daddy.

And hopefully my chicken palace/greenhouse will be done before the first snow... If not, they're moving into the garage

Oooh I love the size of that coop. (waiting about a half hour to go get coffee) I prefer to be able to walk around inside to do "chores" and not have the residents escape unless you want them to. What is that about eight by sixteen?

deb "blink blink was up till four Am again...."

Finally got BYC to let me upload some pics. These are from last week. County fair is this week so i will be bus.

oooh what kind of chicks are those?

I book mark the posts on Thunderbird. I have set my BYC account to send me all the BYC posts by email. This way I can rapidly read through the one liners without having to open the web page. Then when something is interesting I flag it important on my own email. Because each post comes in with a link to it all I have to do is click the "See this Post" button.

I miss a few this way but MY type A personality likes it alot... I can also do a string search on one folder. The other thing I do is filter the BYC posts to a single folder so they are not mixed in with my regular mail. What that does is allow me to Sort ALL the subscribed activity on BYC And only post the unread ones.

Deb, I hope my composting thread is among the interesting ones

One thing about dividing kids up according to their skills, I was one of those quicker learners when it came to math, in first grade I finished both the first and second grades math books before Christmas break, and it wasn't until seventh grade that I started getting proper teaching thanks to groups divided by skill. I made easy A:s (or 10:s like we are graded) all the way through to high school - there I actually had to do a bit, but even then not much. Same for most other subjects. University studies were a horrible impact on me - I had learned to get by without putting in any effort, and suddenly I was in a situation where I actually need to be active to learn something. We'll see when I actually manage to graduate.

I am curious what did you get your degree in? And what do you do for a living.... My son is being tormented by this. I am working double time to keep him going right now.

I keep telling him lots of people work in a field other than what their degree is... I didnt get my degree till I was fifty... so hes not believing me right now.

Thanks, Ron! I'll check them out! =)

I for one, love new recipes and old favorites...
droolin.gif

I'd love that too! Because of allergy issues we make a lot off our food from scratch and I'd love to hear about new recipes as well.

I posted a recipe on my thread Sunday (I think it was; that seems so long ago lol).
I'll start posting them on the baking and supper thread that Ron mentioned. (and I'll probably keep posting them on my own thread as well)

The babies are coming! The babies are coming! It's day 23 and I was so close to just giving up this morning. When the birds were let out even my broody came running so I figured she gave up too. Nope! She ran around the house, waited for her nest to be brought to her, and crawled right on the eggs. While I had them, I checked for pipping and any sign of babies. One peeped so with a deep breath I set the nest down. The way her box was disturbed, figured the other hen laid an egg on her. Pick up the broody, saw the cracks, and quickly set her back down! Oh! I can't wait!!

Now that I've got that out....

Alaskan- I get bad migraines with certain preservatives so almost anything processed or in a box is out. My son has a milk and nut allergy and my one daughter is allergic to chocolate. I feel for you with the no gluten! That's a hard diet to follow!

about the babies!!!

No My son is in major melt down mode School/friends/job.... I am doing stuff like long drives to help him get back on an even keel. Very long story.... Just stuff that goes with a brilliant mind passing up his emotional maturity....

sigh.
