Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Not all kids will be high performers, but if we can improve their lives though what they CAN learn, then that will improve the lives of their children.

Not everyone is college material, nor do they have to be. The most successful people I have known never went to college. It did not fit them. They were/are generous, intelligent, kind people who could afford to help their communities and families.

Some children have emotional problems that prevent them from having the focus to learn, but it does not mean they can not.
I also realize that economics play a huge part on who gets the extra effort and who does not.
I think it is the parent's responsibility to try their very best for their children. Unfortunately, not every child is born to parents that care that much. My heart goes out for them.

Children deserve to feel loved and safe. It affects everything that happens to them -including their education.
Teachers have no idea what some of those young faces are enduring.

Gak. I just bummed myself out. It must be the emo playing in the background.

two days in a row I have been able to read all my favorite threads and post without being kicked off

Sitting with my coffee, contemplating the day ahead, In other words trying to get motivated! I got a lot done with the paint on my new coop. I had a tan base coat down a couple weeks ago, stood back to admire my work like we do...and I hated the color. Of course I did! I hate painting because it all looks great on that chip but when you get it onto a large wall, reality sets in. Yes ma'am your living room wall looks like the inside of an army barracks! Any who, ysterday I tackled the coop again, channeling the creativity of backyard chickens coop builders, I laid out a lattice pattern with masking tape.I painted over this with a light sage green and am so happy with the results! So now the largest ugly tan wall is now pretty darn cute. Lattice print goes more than half way down on 2 sides. What to do on the lower half, if anything. It is seen from the road (I live in a rual area so no hoa to give me a thumbs down) I don't want this to be tacky, but fun. Seven double laced barnevelder live here, they are neighbors to a trio of Gold Laced Wyandotts. The wyandottes live in a conservative A frame painted a very conservative gray, It fits their quiet personalities! Any ideas welcomed! My little grandchildren will out here a good bit, I hope! I wish I had a talented friend that could add morning glories to the trellis, maybe with a humming bird! Any thought about stencils. Thanks

Oooh Paint flowers.... I used to paint all my aviary nest boxes and perches with flowers and climbing vines. Any acryilic house paint can be tinted with tubes of paint that you use for painting pictures. You only need two or three colors. I painted a murel on a plywood construction wall that way.

He was reading books by Bakker By the time he was in sixth grade. Bakker is a Paleontologist. He tested out college level reading then. Typicall Sixth graders are 11 or 12 years old. But I didnt know we could have waited to start him in kindergarden. His birthday landed on October I could have waited because he was still ten in beginning the sixth grade. Because of his height people thought he was much older than he was.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_T._Bakker

At that time he was frustrated by the fact that the teachers were spending more time Disciplining the class than teaching. He wanted to learn and wasnt getting what he wanted in school. One time the teacher was teaching about the solar system and she got the planets wrong. He stopped her and told her so and how was supposed to be. He started getting bullied around that time too.... sigh.

I so couldnt afford to get him into a Montessori or private school. And I dont have the right personality to do homeschooling. Somewhere that being smart doesnt make you stand out.

I have always told him to do what he loved... If you love what you do you will make money at it... because you will do it well.

deb

Sorry. Thanks! =)
Yeah, mine aren't that good, but all my kids are avid readers and that makes a huge difference. I can feel his pain about what goes on in classrooms. I can also feel your pain; I don't have the right personality to homeschool either. I do it anyway, b/c we believe it's better for our children and for their education that I do it the best way I can do it and give them a good education than it is for them to go to "school" and get poor educations or worse. At any rate, I also understand not being able to afford private school; my grandparents paid for my older two to go.

Everyone stands out no matter where they go b/c we are all unique in some way.
I do understand from a mother's perspective, you want to see your child respected for who they are, not bullied for who they are or are not.

whine whine whine,

Yep, doesn't matter how big the cup is, there is going to be something wrong with it.

I try to tell him to not allow the Degree to define himself. its a starting point. Some people move on from there and virtually create a niche for themselves as they go. like for instance he also wants to write... I think he would be a great fit for a Game Developer....

When I started out back in 73 I wanted to be a Systems Analyst. We are talking during the final days of key punch programming. I was Programming in Fortran and basic in Highschool.,.. keying it in on Keypunch and they were taking boxes of cards to San Diego State to run them on actual Computers... Dial up was a rotary phone with a boot like receptical where you stuck the phone reciver in. the data was sent by telephone lines to a similar reciever at the college.

I started at community college talked to an advisor and he wrote me up a schedual. I had no clue. I wound up being classes to prepare me for working in an office as an assistant to the programming department. They had me doing switch board style programming for sorting machines. I was sooo bored I forgot to go to the finals and yet still got As in the classes.

So the next semester I switched to art and learned how to weld in sculpture class and to compose art through Art composition and I gobbled up a Boolean Algebra class. Took it on a whim. but by then the damage was done I felt I was wasting time for another college student who was more "motivated"

To be honest that Art Composition class served me the best over the years. As well as the welding class.

I worked in several fields after that before getting bored again and going back to school. then I discoverd drafting. Part Art, Part Math, Part Writing, Part logic.... And I got to go to the machine shop to answer questions and learn... I was in heaven. School for me was on the job training. though I did get a degree when I was 50.

deb

You lost me at Systems Analyst.

I'm not a technology person. But I get the gyst. Congrats on getting As despite missing finals; that's quite a feat!
I took mostly art classes the first time I was in college (dual enrollment in high school). I did really well at Basic Design, but I couldn't get my final piece turned in on that day (and I had been taught that "they weren't going to accept that kind of thing [turning in work late, etc.] in college, so I'd better buckle down and....") lost story short, the instructor told me he would have given me full credit, but I got a D b/c I didn't even show up again until the beginning of the next semester, when I took....ceramics. I really liked ceramics I and II and then in between jazz and College Algebra....
I got my share of OTJ training. I got pregnant a month after I got married and my first night home with my first baby should have been the first clue...She didn't sleep at all. (and she didn't let me sleep a whole two hours at a time until she was six years old). Another long story short, she doesn't like being the guinea pig, but she endures it out of love for me. and I try to make it as easy for her as I can (but can't help feeling that all my trying actually makes it harder for her...IDK). On the job training, ugh!

Way to go TeaChick! What degree are you working on? Going back to school after you've had kids can be tough! It takes an understanding family.

Thanks. =)

@chickisoup I did notice last week the coffee didn't fill the can and saw the reduced weight.

I just wonder how long before the "new larger size" comes out. When will marketing realize we are not oblivious to their tactics. Seriously!

I tried the monitor for my mom and mine is old and was disappointed with all the static from it. So currently I don't have one available.

@chikaboo55 It sounds like it turned out well! Please post pics! I'm trying to finish mine. It needs repainted outside and inside before winter. @Bunnylady
The stencil looks terrific. I love stencils! I just need time to add some. I really hope to get that done before winter.

On the home front it's a good thing chickens only require minimal attention. This week my mom has had a couple of long days and nights. Today she is much better.
