Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Aww. I just hate it when our good fruit producing southern states get hitby cold snaps that ruin the fruit! Not good!:rant

I don't know how the citrus will fare in Florida. It is the late freezes that kills the peach buds when they are ready to bloom that hurts the peach crops. I live in Peach County.

I have citrus here at the house, and the orchard at the nursery has pears, plums, pomegranates, persimmons and ,,,sigh, confused peaches. I think it is the "P" orchard.
oh, and a Mulberry. They freeze along with the pomegranates.

oh well. I was hoping we'd make it this year. The muscadine grapes always do well.

Ironically we can grow very little. Things that require a certain number of chill hours do not get them, and the ones that can not handle ANY chill hours- they get too many.

Blackberries are my go to fruit for jams.
They don't care what happens as long as they get rain in the spring.

Tampa is a big strawberry producer. I expect them to be expensive this year. Last year was a great year! very mild.. fantastic berries and affordable.

Chickens were out for a bit this morning but temps are dropping now so the coop is in lockdown. Pushed some of the old straw inside the coop up against the pop hole doors, threw in piles of new straw for them to work on, piled a few leafs just inside the door to control any drafts, scooped the poop, filled the feeder, cleaned and filled the heated waterer, tossed in a couple millet sprays for treats, locked the door and said a little prayer.

All the schools here have already been cancelled in most of the state for Monday and many of the events for tomorrow as well. Even many businesses up here are closing early Monday so their employees can get home before the predicated -60 to -75 F windchills kick in. We will be fine as long as the power holds. If it goes we are already prepped to bring the girls inside.
