Is it sad I'm excited about the snow? It's not like we get it every year. The last time we had snow like this was January & February 2010
No that's not sad. I actually like the 4 seasons just not wacky extreme out of the norm temps and wind!. If I lived further south i would be excited for snow too!Just don't tell anyone.
PS Your yard is pretty!
Quote: last killing frost/freeze is always last week of may, first week of june, usually depending on when the full moon shows. It canbe cold right up til then or we can have a good warm spell that tricks everything into waking up and blooming early then, smack. That's what happened year before last killing any hope of an apple crop. Not too awfully unusual right where we are to have a frost every month of summer but our first hard frost is always some time in mid September but has been known to hit early as last week in August. If you're lucky tho and get your plants thru that one, there is usually at least two more weeks or so before you're done. By that time the days are getting pretty short anyway. I've devised several tricks over the years to get thru everything but the worst freeze. I have been asked to teach a few of them. (I am a certified master gardener)
Our summers are usually 70's more or less with a couple days in the 80's. Problem with growing anything tho is our nights are often in the low 50's often dropping into the 40's. Not good for warm weather crops like tomatoes and peppers so they require a lot of special help.
HOWEVER, last summer was just nuts!!! We had over two weeks of miserable days where it got into the high 80's to 90's. Folks were cleaning out the stores of air conditioners. The killer was it was humid. We don't do humid, ever! I was giving the girls ice water and frozen watermelon chunks. Guess that should have been a clue that the winter was going to crazy too.
Alaskan--- are you familiar with Alaskhens? they are a small scale breeder of northern rare poultry breeds that I think is outside of Anchorage.
