Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I have heard.... That in the interior of Alaska, you can actually use things like net or chicken wire on the top of the run. The snow is so dry up there that it doesn't stick to anything.

I keep my water outside....unless it is ultra windy blowing cold, and then my boys start feeling sorry for the chickens and put the water in the very well ventilated, uninsulated, sand over dirt floor shed part of my coop.

I do not think there is much risk of the chickens waking up early and needing a drink of water before you let them out.
1. It is so dark, they are going to be sleeping in too
2. The water will probably be frozen solid anyway.

I am SUPER paranoid about frost bite. My relative humidity can be so high here, I really prefer the water far far away from where they sleep.

The thing that amazed me around Fairbanks was the ice fog. It would sock the place in like regular fog.

We get frozen fog here in norther California too--not as cold as alaska but it is weird to feel fog freezing the inside of your nose when you breath it in.

Battening down the hatches here as it is 40 degrees! I moved both water buckets to the run and put recycled vinyl shutters up as awnings above my coop windows to keep the rain out. Fresh, dry sawdust and straw and it looks good. Now for some evening coffee, thanks everyone for your advice - I need to get some kind of roof over part of the run...

Yeah for having chores done. We have farm chores next weekend but one more nightof fair today.

FAIR REPORT: Our Dorking Pullet took Champion Large Fowl, Sumatra Cockerel took Reserve Large Fowl. The silkie and the frizzle both got first premium ad the frizzle was looked at for a bantum rosette but didn't make the final cut. Pretty good. 4 birds, 2 rosetes. Must give credit to the breeder, Dr. Kieth Bramwell at the University of Arkansas. He has some awsome heratige breeds and dose wonderful things with 4H.

Pics later. Off to watch my kids run. :)

Brought home some dog run fence panels yesterday, the gate and one panel 20x6 escaped the falling tree without being bent, the others three are going to be a challenge. Maybe if I drink more coffee I will be stimulated enough to figure out how to make them straight enough.

Could try to chain to tree and use a wench? Maybe?

All plans including wenches are always good.

There is a big difference between chaining a wench to a tree and using a winch to secure a tree....

Yes there is! lol

I know! One little vowel makes such a different word!

Coffee is good today and I did not have to rescue the little cockerel from the big old laying hens...

I roasted a batch of Kenya Kirinyaga Kii AB last night. It made a very nice pot of coffee!

Along with the green beans yesterday, Tom sent a post card from Ethiopia showcasing one of the coffee stations that he buys from.

Side two:

So cool!
