Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Quote: Yes! that is the point. Apparently each generation is smarter than their parents. Which means I am going closer to the mean than when I was a child, our children are surpassing us.
it's not dementia. They are just wedging us out.

AND there are more of them than us. My son will need a bumper sticker that says," Mom is still hovering around average."

Hopefully. I keep losing my coffee in the microwave, so... he might not get to brag.

I love the ignoring of reality of this!

Back when I was taking Psychology classes, we were taught that the average pulls to itself. Meaning that intelligent parents were more likely to have children that went down to the average so they would be less intelligent than the parents.

The same holds true for beauty and good looks.

I don't get that.
I don't understand what you wrote. can't find my coffee either.

I think talking to your kids and spending time with them will open up pathways that will give them a hand up no matter what the intellect of the parent.
So, Maybe if they had a job that kept them so busy they didn't have as much time for their kid as someone else, then the IQ could drop.

I think by having life styles that are less labor intensive than our fore fathers, we have more time to spend with our kids when their brains are young and plastic. They get to hang on to more neural pathways after the big pruning happens. That is why generations are getting brighter.

The Flynn effect: http://www.intelltheory.com/flynneffect.shtml

The average will be recalculated as the tests get harder. The test my father took was not the same test my son took. and my son still did better than my dad. ( I did better than dad, and my son did better than me. )
if I retook today's test, my score would be significantly lower than when I took it in school.

I agree totally.
I just do not like how it has become more important to have bragging rights than to actually care about the whole package. Smart is good, educated is good, but kind is better. Generous and thoughtful are better.

There are also different categories of intelligence, and the kid that flunked math will never be the the life saving surgeon, but he might be the musician that puts smiles on our faces.
Or the chef that writes our favorite cook book.
We need the entire spectrum.

I so agree with all this.... Though People who are musicians are Usually above average in math... or have the potential.

Supposedly.... (Very limited knowledge) they get it from infected mosquitos. You being all hot and wet probably have loads of those.

Other than that, I know nothing.

We have absolutely tons of those!!! I'm usually given to exaggeration, but there's simply no way to exaggerate mosquitoes in the South.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!! =) At least I know where it starts, and I can see if there are ways to keep mosquitoes out of the coop that are safe for the chicks.

Good luck @TeaChick ! I've had a little of the fowl pox here last summer. It was the dry version. Mostly only on the combs and very little. It went away in a few weeks. But that was on hens not little chicks.
Castportpony has tons of good info I have learned a lot from her!

Well I have taken mom home. And it was quite a time. Our house is so disability unfriendly. We either better stay very healthy or find a house all on one level. The main part is one level but there are so many steps when your house is built into a hill. The bathroom is very tight for her wheel chair but we managed. But of course since I am eternally 29 I won't ever have to worry about that!

Everyone have a great night and a great Sunday! And great coffee!
big_smile.png

Thanks. I'll find her information. (I like her mad scientist avi)
Glad you're mom is back home. It's good of you to go out of your way to take care of her; it says a lot about how she raised you too. My DH thinks I'm eternally 26 (I think that has something to do with him being eternally 29 though, but don't tell him I said that).
Had a good Sunday (except the Dolphins lost) and the coffee was good, but not great. I made it myself, b/c I let DH sleep until it was done. We did his (very belated) b-day b-fast that morning, Eggs Benedict.

x2 I'm sorry tea chick.

Thank you! =)

x3 Tea Chick! So much time and care put in and then to lose one is hard.

Thank you! =)

Having a few of these lately!!!

As a SAHM with a kid who doesn't really sleep all night (except on weird rare occasions when he just happens not to wake up or he just decides [lol] not to wake me up), I don't participate, but I understand.

Was playing in the garden yesterday and found a nest with 5 eggs in it. My one big girl is still with her chick and the other lays in the nesting box. Game on! Grabbed a cup of coffee and waited... and waited... and waited.

Killer was moved to "big girl" status! Now I have to figure out how to get her to lay in the nesting box.

Maybe she'll go broody???
Maybe you could put something that's like the nesting box where she's been laying and put some of her nesting material in it, then move it to safe locations (but not far at a time) until you get it where you want her to lay. ???
IDK, but congrats on finding the nest!!!

Good luck Teachick

Have a blessed week everyone !!!!!

Hope your week has been better than you expected!!!
I feel ya. I've had to start taking St. John's Wort b/c DS isn't letting me sleep. :hmm

Blink Blink.... Coffeeeee.... must...... get....... coffee...

May neighbor Tom just called and the feed store didnt bring his chicken food.... So now I have to drive 120 miles, round trip, to bring a single bag of lay pellets.

Oh well I have stuff in the back of the truck that needs to go up there any way. The heat wave finally broke. Up till about three days ago we were having triple digits... Truck has no AC.... So 440 AC will be decent.... 4 windows open 40 miles per hour....

Tom is a godsend He feeds my horse and makes sure shes ok. in exchange I buy food for his animals.

Sounds like a good arrangement!
