Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Oooh very interesting....  I do know they use scent trails to find their way as well as those Antennas to collect tactile information...  Then there are those front feet....  Many ants just collect organic material and haul it down to their farms in the "basement" where they glue the organic material together and grow fungus on it.  They eat the fungus, not the organic material.  So that basement is their garden.

Yes the queen after her initial mating flight never sees the light of day for the rest of her life....  and that one mating flight is all she has to produce thousands and thousands of eggs.

When I was a new mom  I found some teeny little ants in the babys bedroom...  they were very tiny and red...  I had never seen any like them.  They were very slow too....  So I called an exterminator and after walking my city sized property, about a 60 by 50 foot lot, (18m x 15m), he said he had counted thirty different species of ants on the property...  He rattled off the name of what was in the house...  No matter they were gone by the time he was done.

First and only time I ever called an exterminator.  Baby Dean was about a month I wasn't taking any chances.

Thanks for sharing that info they are fascinating I'm going to go call the exterminator after I finish my coffee this morning.LoL
God knows what they are plotting I saw a heard of them on my bathroom sink last night and they scattered when I turned the light on.
Me thinks there's treachery a foot. LoL

If coffee tasted like it smells I'd be in heaven...but it doesn't....

My missus only drinks tea. But everytime we go out for coffee she needs to have a sniff of mine :)

Sitting here by the pool having my cup of joe watching Mr Big do what he does best (sleep).
Thinking about the Ant thread, do chickens eat ants?
I had a toad we named hoppy who ate them with great enthusiasm.
He was cleaning them up around the pool so I took him locked him in my bathroom and now there's no more ants.
I think they call that natural pest control. LoL

I was mulching my garden and dug into the pine straw pile and it was LOADED with bull ants.
I was backing away when I saw the snake eggs. They were huge so I figured it was our resident coach whip. (Bigger than a quarter.) My intrepid husband dug a bit more and found a newly hatched coach whip. The ants pinch the daylights out of us, but the little (about a foot of linguine) baby was fine. I moved them (we have five!) to my bee garden and have seen them since, so I guess the ants did not see them as food or an intruder.
Maybe that is why the mom laid her eggs there? the ants were baby snake food?

This time of year here they are coming in for water and any chance food they can find. I can coexist with them as long as they dont bite. I use Orange oil cleaner or Windex to distrupt their scent trail and kill the ones that have made it into the house. I prefer not to use insecticides myself.... Thats just me. We dont have fire ants here yet but if we did I would bring out the big guns.

Um if they scattered when the light came on .... are you sure they are ants? If they are not get that exterminator quick. Its also swarming season for Termites.... Have you found alot of little papery wings either outside or in the house? Termites are a similar critter in appearance... a little bit longer than an ant and Here in San Diego they are very dark brown.

If you can catch a few in a pill bottle to show the exterminator they will definately be able to identify it.

Our ant problem is Argentinean ants. They have created a huge super hive that started in New Orleans. They are genetically identical so they are crazy to kill. When one hive any where figures out a poison, All of them stop eating it--from California back to New Orleans. If you try to poison them with a spay, they split the hive and within a week you have double or triple the ants. The only thing that slows them down is bait and that has to be changed to a different one regularly.

Luckily we do not have fire ants here....yet....Global warming may change that.

Good coffee tastes good and tastes like it smells. But straight black coffee takes a while to get used to... A good brew with some creme and a touch of sugar or sweetener and Coffee is heaven.

On our tongue we only taste Sweet Salty Bitter and Sour. The rest is up to our nose. That's why wine tasters will smell the wine first take a teeny sip then pull air in through their mouth to Mix the aroma in with the taste.

You can do the very same with Coffee. Matter of fact thats what coffee buyers do....

Each persons sense of smell is different Otherwise there would only be one roast of coffee oNe flaver of wine or beer.... etc.
