Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Yes, soon congratulations will be in order for the Alaskan family. Perhaps a girl this time.

I'm leaving my OE's eggs in the nest everyday in hopes that she'll go broody for me. I might need to supplement w/ some Comet eggs. I'm going to give her the rest of this week anyway.
I need to build a door and buy some hinges to secure the nest box once she's (hopefully) gone broody.

I do that with my silkies and when they begin to brood I switch eggs so they will raise chickens that I want or need. Last summer they each raised one brood of silkies and I have one pullet from last summer, the others are males

I am in need of a LOT of hot, strong, rich coffee. One very long lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng day. Up early to -25 F, again

. Hubby finally gets puppy to go outside to do her business around 8 a.m. Comes carrying her into the house announcing that her back end REALLY needs to be cleaned up. I take her into the bathroom and prepare to got to work. Take one look and realize that is not just rather loose fecal matter but a lot of dark red blood!

Warm water, pup shampoo, clip fur, now I can see my poor little pup has REALLY blown out an anal gland right thru the side of her bum. Poor thing!!! On the phone to the vet, yelling to the other half to go let the chickens into the greenhouse and get the car warmed up. "Squeeze you in as an emergency" and we are on our way to town. Killing time while they sedate her and clean up the mess by going to the bank and transferring money from savings to the checkbook. Back to the vet and told to go have lunch because the pup liked REALLY liked the drugs and is still snoozing in her cage. We return from lunch, wait a while longer, finally get delivered a still rather loopy pup and head home with a sleepy pup, a pocket full of drugs and a checkbook a couple hundred dollars lighter. Good thing she is so cute
