I have 3 Rhode Island Reds and 3 Mottled Java, all born March 3rd.

Jeff

Alright! Those RIRs will lay like crazy. =D IDK much about Java. Is that them in your avi?
I have a bunch; my flock is in my signature. Mostly I have NHs, but my pride and joy are the rare breed assortment I just got last month and my OE hen. =)

I did look at your flock, very nice. I can never get enough of chicken pics. I was told that Mottled Java's are a rare breed, however I am not 100 percent sure on that. These are two pictures of one of my Mottled Java.

My friend's boss is going to let her work from home for the next two weeks so she gets an extension to find buyers for her birds!

She has -
guineas, Ancona ducks, flock of Arkansas Blues, various purebred Marans, BCM, black tailed buff, whites,2 pair of Roger Tice line Red Dorkings, 6 Rhodebar, HRIR, Buttercups, Barred Rocks, two American Game Bantam roosters as well as other assorted including one black bantam orpington pullet .

That is the short version of what is left.

I am glad she is getting some extra time to liquidate. I told her I would take a few at the end if she had some left, just so she had a place for them to go, but I am not looking for anything right now.

I wish I was closer!!! I'd be willing to take any of them, especially pullets. I had a Buttercup in my rare breeds assortment, but it's the one that didn't make it. I don't suppose she'd be willing to ship, would she? The chickens are probably too old for that anyway, aren't they? Or are they?

Yeah, that's great her boss is letting her do that.

Is it Chickwhispers? I got my beautiful blond babies from her! Awesome blogs both of you!

Friday!

I have a friend who works for a poultry producer as an Accountant. She has a back yard flock, does breeding, sells eggs etc. They told her this week that she has to get rid of all her personal poultry by Sunday.

AI has entered the state and they are uping their biosecurity measures. I have spent the week trying to find folks in state who can buy/take her birds.

She bringing me a delivery tomorrow. Possibly a few for me and some others for a co-worker. I hadn't planned on adding to the flock, but I know her birds are clean and I want to help her find good homes. She has a wonderful variety of heratige breeds.

Rain all day today.

Lots to do!

Sorry your friend has to get rid of her flock. This morning there was a flock of Red-winged black birds out on the ponds edge along with some sparrows and robins. Other years I would have been glad to see them. This year, not so much. We also get ducks and herons.

Yay for full-time chickie mamas!! WooHoo!

As to maple syrup, ....

Up here people tap birch trees for syrup.
I'm allergic to birch trees though i love the paperwhite birch. If I were to use birch syrup maybe that would help my allergies like using honey?

Last night I had coffee after dinner and was up until 2am and then couldn't get to sleep until after 4am! Not doing that again. So GoodNight all! Have a great morning and I will post picks of all the lovely eggs when I get them in the bator!

Here's a cup to go for the morning!

I actually have some stacked right now, because I have a HATCHER and a separate INCUBATOR... and I don't want my incubating eggs in with the high hatching humidity.

Actually, VERY frustrating.... I decided to use an app for this set of hatching... and the app lied to me, and me a TOTAL idiot did NOT double check the calculations of the app.

SO upsetting...

anyway, the result is that I believed the lying app (and yes, it was set to regular jumbo quail, and yes, it SAID that it was using the number of days it should have been using... but maybe it doesn't know how many days are in February? I dunno)

so.. the short of it is that I took my quail eggs and put them in the hatcher, and stacked eggs into my incubator so that all eggs would be happy ...

and the quail eggs were put into the hatcher three full days early.... three full days too soon no rotation, and three days way too soon super high humidity.
hit.gif

When they didn't hatch when they should have (and quail have always popped out for me) I counted... and realized that the day the app said they were hatching was the day they should have been put into the hatcher....

So... following TRUE calculations, they should have hatched today.... but they haven't, 2 have pipped but not zipped, I poked at them a bit (after waiting over 14 hours, which is like 2 days in quail time) and they still have blood vessels... so I put them back in the incubator... one more has a tiny pip, but nothing else.

I just don't understand what is going on... if they are all in the wrong position since the rotation was stopped too soon... or the high humidity too early made them too fat to move about...

I just don't know...

and to make it worse, these blasted quail are spoken for.... I am selling them to someone......

And the two that I looked at... I don't know why they aren't trying to get out.... they aren't glued in looking... and those blood vessels are still full of blood....

No quail sits that long in an egg without getting out..... or just dieing.....
he.gif

I put in double the number of quail eggs that I needed for chicks for this order.... and WAY too many were infertile... I guess because of the cold
idunno.gif
.. so then I was left with only 14 eggs and the order was for 12 chicks....

anyway... the person is local, so not the end of the world to have to incubate another quail batch for them...

but I am such a softy, I don't like killing a bunch of quail chicks right at hatch... and that is what it looks like is happening.
