I have them all with the large end up in an egg carton after taking out the turner yesterday. I didn't help chick but I did open lid and I can hear it chirping so that made me feel better. The pip is towards the upper big end but maybe it was rt around the air sac and developing area. Here is a pic, the window makes it a little tough to see.

Thanks for letting me know it could be a while for chick to zip after a pip... Guess I'll go and start my day instead of waiting for it to hatch since I could be there awhile haha I'm so excited!!!

Good morning all!! Hope everyone had a great weekend! I got up this morning to my first pip!!!

I'm so excited, it's taking everything for me to not open and help the chick break out of there. I am a little concerned, where the chick pipped, it's bloody. Idk how much, I can just see red there. Is that normal, is the chick ok??? I'm having my morning cup hovered over the view window today!!!

I get to be patiently impatient with a broody hen. She's a year-old Serama that was showing signs of broodiness, so I started letting her eggs accumulate. She's been up, and down, and up, and down - half of the time when I checked on her, she'd be sitting, the other half, she'd be standing around, waiting for me to feed her. I wasn't sure whether she was sitting with enough consistency to be getting the job done. Well, yesterday, BB2K and I pulled her eggs briefly and candled them. They are all developing and lively; they look to be maybe 10 days along. Since they are Serama eggs, they will hatch a bit earlier than large fowl eggs; about day 18 - 19. So sometime in the next week or two, we'll probably have some pipping and unzipping going on around here.

Good luck Bunnylady. I would love Seramas but I don't expect they would do well with large fowl and I don't have a place to build them their own space. Maybe one day.

I did not find the original post but your answer is good.

Blue jays will also break the eggs so wild birds can be a cause of broken eggs. Sadly many will cull the hens instead of fixing the real problem which often times is mites, lice or worms. Then they do not want to treat with medicine. Many of the same people will give worm medicine to their dog but not a chicken. Squash seeds and DE? Get some real Medicine!

Thank you. I also thought about but not sure if a chicken that has worms would they turn and eat their own egg for some type of nutrient?
