Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I like tea and chickens too
Ice tea warm weather & hot tea winter nites & morns.
Chicken biscuits cold weather & Chicken and waffles with my own honey,...oh heck, anytime!

Yum! =)

for what its worth I water with recycled rubber tubs and a float valve. all open air... I have never fed medicated anything nor have I had to treat a flock for anything but mites....

Tubs are easy to clean... I flip them over right in the coop (dirt floors) and give them a swipe with a toilet brush (designated only for tub cleaning) and dump them again then set them to refill. i cleaned once a week.

tub

float valve

each pen has their own so there is no cross contamination...

Both the tub and the valve are intensely rugged and can handle hard freezes... Nice part about the tub is even if it freezes hard the slope on the sides allows you to dump out the ice. yep they walk in em Yep they poo in them yep they kick dirt in them and perch on the sides... Though I learned to buy a small resin table and set it over the top... kept the perching and pooing part down...

I tried going non-medicated last year. I lost over half of my flock in chick losses.

This is Lulu, He has wanted to be the boss since he got here he is 4 weeks old today and this pic was taken like 2 min ago. He is chesty, picky, and all around Boyish.
He bounces all over and riles up all he is housed with. With all the problems I have had with my Silkie chicks getting hurt my blue bantam cochin baby is in with the standard cochins to brood. He is ALL BOY!

I will still wait and see once he gets older what kind of a Rooster he will be the flock handler or the trouble maker. The roo that takes care of the flocks needs first is always welcome here

Toilet brush for the coop

Yeah, he's totally a boy!!! I agree that the roo that takes care of the flock is always welcome! =)

My girls enjoying their frozen watermelon, mango & pineapple treats with cubes of ice. It's 97 degrees here in Savannah Georgia!

Spoiled chickens lol. Savannah GA is one of my favorite places. I lived on Tybee for a little over a year. We were expanding the Georgia Pacific gypsum mill in Savannah.

@TeaChick
RIRs & BOs, they're all 21 wks old. Only one of the RIR are laying eggs. She started June 1st, so far she's laid 12 eggs. I can't wait for the others to start laying.

They're nice looking girls for sure! The rest of your Reds will start laying soon. I had a NH (based significantly on the RIR back when the breed was developed) start laying at the end of March, by the end of April all the rest of them were laying. =)
As I understand, BOs are slow to mature, is that right?

@bamadude Tybee Island is cool! Whenever I have family in town, that's one of the first places they want to visit, River Street is next.
My son worked at Georgia Pacific Gypsum for a few years right out high school.

I'm not sure about that but I've read in one of these forums where someone's BO started laying at 16 wks old.

I'm mistaken. That's early to mature, in fact, that's very early to mature. I had Leghorns that didn't start laying that early!!! If I had to guess, I'd say that all your girls will be laying by the end of July! =)
Congrats on your first egg from them, BTW!

@Calima , Thanks for the ovation. BYC is a great place to learn from, just be careful what information you get from whom; it's still the internet, so anyone can post anything at anytime. This is a good thread with some experienced and reliable chicken keepers. =)

River street is awesome especially during St. Paddys Day. The year I was there the city dyed the river green. It was crazy.
Tybee Island is my favorite beach.
We put in about 5 miles of conveyors at GP. We were working 135 feet up in the air right on the river in January. Im from southeast Alabama and had never been so cold.
