Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

Wow chicki I'm so sorry!

Could the light have made it too warm for them? Can they get away from it? I'm at a loss but will keep thinking of possibilities. I'm sure someone else will think of something.

No odd piles of poop? Any possibility of snakes?
Sorry. The light I was referring too is the ceiling light in the bedroom where they were. Their brooder was set up on the bed where they weren't too close but could still sit and look out the big bay window. Their brooder was cleaned regularly and there better not be any snakes in my house!!!

Oh they are inside! I'm sorry, I didn't realize. That rules out alot. Even more stumped now.

@casportpony has links to necropsy by state.

Wrap them up in a zip lock bag and pop them into the fridge until you get information. DO NOT FREEZE THEM.

The best way to see what happened is to send one or two of them in for testing.

Thanks Ron. I got her info when I lost a bird last year. Unfortunately our state is one that does not know the meaning of the word "free" and what they want to do a necropsy is far from it.

Just can't spare the finances now. We just got the news not an hour ago that my DH's younger brother is dying. (we knew he wasn't good, good surgery, home and recovering well, then,,,,,-long story-) Anyway, we are now in get things squared away and go mode for a long, not fun roadtrip.
Chicki .....

I have no earthly idea. I am way more lackadaisical with feeding my chicks and caring for my chicks.

Your care sounds like the picture of perfection...

There is NOTHING I can think of that would have been wrong.

I wish I could give you some proper comfort, because especially after all you have been through, that is truly beyond awful!!!

Thank you Alaskan. Your understanding is a great comfort in this very uncomfortable night.

do you have a space heater? carbon monoxide would take them all at once... It wouldnt take much.. electrical issues?

So sorry sometimes it is just unexplainable... and totally not your fault

deb
No spaceheater Deb. Won't use the dangerous things. Only thing electrical anywhere near them was their Brinsea chick brooder warmer (I won't use those dangerous heat lamps either) but it had gotten warm enough in their room that even that wasn't plugged in. I'm driving myself crazy. I've gotten so paranoid that I just took a flashlight and went out to the coop to check on the girls and the two "teenagers" in the grow out pen (the ones that survived being frozen to death in shipment) to make sure they were alright.

Thank you for caring. Not everyone understands how we care for these silly feather dusters.

Do you know they were alive after the thunderstorm passed? Maybe some type of lightening electrical discharge?

Yep. I thought about that too. There could not have been more than 2 hours between fine and dead. That's what is so puzzling. Can't be disease, not with them all dying probably within minutes of each other. That would even be crazy odd timing for feed poisoning. Only thing that makes any sense to me is some kind of inhaled toxin but there is literally no source. They were in a room with no chemicals, nothing electrical, just NOTHING! Until I can come up with an answer I am going to be paranoid about that room.

How old were they?
