This is my first time with these two breeds, I have had Wild Easterns, Narragansetts, Bronze, and Wishard and an occasional White, I bought some poults this spring of the Bourbon Red and Black Spanish, they are now over six mos of age, and I was expecting the Black Spanish to be the largest but the Bourbon Red hen is larger then a Black Spanish hen and as large as the Black Spanish jake.
So I am curious as who what sizes other folks have had with these?
I wanted all Bourbon Reds but the local dealer sold out on them. My preference was for some Narragansetts but they never got any in.
I am debating putting the BS hen in the freezer and trying a cross with these two in the spring. Or putting all in the freezer and ordering some Narragansetts early. Leaning towards that, if so, then I can really compare these as dressed out.
This is my first time with the Black Spanish. Good as the Bourbon in temperament.
