Size difference in eggs

He is starting to dry now but I did use coconut oil on him mid hatch the membrane in his pip whole looked yellow and after shrink wrapped mallard baby I got nervous. he seems to be having a harder time fluffing. Is there a way to help him fluff? He is in a diy still air incubator I’m using for hatching.

How high is the humidity now? The higher it is, they slower they will dry.

But once I get the out of the hatcher, I like to just use a terry cloth washcloth to fluff them up, and they will mostly preen it themselves very quickly.

If it happens to be hard, more gooey sticky, I like a soft dry toothbrush to gently brush the fluff.

Congrats on the hatch!!

I used a towel last night and rubbed him a bit. I’m gonna pic up a tooth brush this afternoon since I hopefully have three more on the way. I’m so excited. All three of my last eggs have small shadows in their air cells. Also I think my baby I just hatched is a blue and lilac!!! Little one is doing so much better this morning. Head is up trying to get to me. Still very wobbly but for more sure footed than last night.

I like it! Unfortunately I don’t really get too much of a say. My soon to be 5 year old daughter has been naming these guys since I told her I was getting duck eggs. I’ll pitch it too her for sure. The Mallard we had was Ella vanilla if that shows you the direction the names have been going lol.

Street Food is my favorite duckling name.
