skeeters in waters

How can i keep the skeeters out of my waters with out hurting the chickens? someone said cooking oil will stop them from hatching.

I doubt it'll hurt the birds but you sure don't need more around--just empty and refill the waterers every day or so.
 
My girls drink from my water lily tanks, some of which have Mosquito Dunks in them.

Mosquito dunks have Bacillus israelensis, which is to mosquito larvae what BT (Bacillus thurengensis) is to caterpillars.

The package says it is safe to use around animals and birds.
 
There are various mosquito products out. Barely straw has been used in stock tanks or small ponds to stop critter and algae growth. Apple cider vinegar will work in plastic containers and is pretty effective for chicken waterers but takes a lot if we are talking stock tank size. I was using up a gallon a month on a 30gallon stock tank until some frogs decided it looked like a good breeding container and eliminated my mosquito problem for that area. If your water isn't chlorinated you can use chlorine but I prefer to avoid chemicals and like my well water because it's not chlorinated or fluoridated.
