Ok....we are having a problem with skunks. I told my bf that we had to make sure the pens were secure top and bottom and he thought I was crazy. I am soooooo mad at him. I have lost 3 little chicks. 1 Frizzle and 2 silkies I think they are bantam as they are not getting very big. The skunks do not seem interested in the Cochins or the Turkeys. After saying I told you so ....and some tears the pens are now secure. I am still worried though.

Here are my questions

1) Would a pair of goats help? Or should I get a donkey?

2) If I had to get goats could they be pygmy? ( I am terrified of all of them but especially the large ones)

3) Is there a better way to discourage them? Because in the fall we will also have troubles with the coyotes.

4) Does fox urine (powder or liquid) work? Bf seems to think it will just draw fox.

Thanks for any advice

1. i have 2 goats in with my chickens and never had an attack in the pen by any predators.

2. i have one pygmy and another crossed goat and they seem to be fine with the chickens, and ducks and turkeys.

3. i dont think a goat could discourage an attack ny a coyote because they are bigger than goats and coyotes seem to love goat meat, and u can discourage animals by playing a radio on all night.

4,i dont know if fox urine will workn cause it may bring the foxes closer to ur house looking for a mate.

Best bet would be to live trap them and kill them. There's just no easy way to discourage skunks from coming back to a food source.
