Lately my two 6 month year old Muscovy Ducks have been sleeping out in the open next to their pool rather than in their pen.
I thought this was weird as it is winter (though an Australian winter so not too cold) and one has only recently started laying and I would assume she would find the pen more comfortable.
I tried changing straw and added extra but they still sleep out in the middle of the yard.

Is this normal Muscovy behaviour or should I be worried?

You can lock them up in their pen every night and they should learn. I wouldn’t let them stay out as foxes are just a pain. And I’ve had a few muscovies lay at the moment, hatch ducklings and go broody.

Naturally they don’t want to pen up at night, so the behavior isn’t abnormal. You would just have to make sure they go into their coop at night if you want them in the coop. Ducks aren’t like chickens that instinctively “go to bed.”
