Small scale Breeding question

It's totally fine to inbreed that wide range of mixes. It only matters when trying to breed a single breed for more than a generation.

I do line breed because I want to keep my birds pure. I started out with a quad and built my flock up from that. I usually breed father to daughters and mothers with sons. I have had a few odd ones like a crossed beak but things like that can show up every once in a great while.
This is Gladys a crossed beak. Usually I cull any misfits as chicks. I will never use Gladys as a breeder, she is a pet.

You can do it...but if you are looking to gain higher quality and value in your birds it is always advisable to import multiple lines of the same breed. I breed Light Sussex to show standards and I am importing about a dozen chicks that are straight from the original Sussex lines in England to add weight to the mix. I have done line breeding, but all my attempts always ended up in some genetic problem being magnified.

By the way, that is one of the best looking RIR's I've seen!

All of my birds are pure heritage breeds. I also breed to the Standard of Perfection because I also show my birds.

My words! I would give anything to get my hands on one of those birds! They are my favorites...but I cannot find any with that quality in Canada...

Years ago I had several breeds but narrowed it down to a few breeds to concentrate on my breeding. Most of my birds have placed well at the shows.
