My Barred Plymouth Rock pullets are about 5 months old, maybe 6, so they're all getting around to laying. 3 of the girls are laying regularly, and 3 of them aren't. Today, I found this little!! gem in the run. :lau I didn't expect to find one that little! It looks even smaller in person; it's less than a bite!
Is this worryingly small, or do you think she's fine? I'm new to chicken keeping and was aware the first few eggs would be small, but I was not prepared for this small! :lau

Bottle cap and larger egg are there for size comparison. :p

I have one about that big that one of my hens laid after their winter hiatus. I've heard this kind of egg called a fairy egg or fart egg. Not uncommon, not to worry about. Just working out the kinks.

A fart egg? :lau And thanks, good to know! :D Just wanted to make sure she wasn't having some kind of issue I needed to be aware about.

It's so tiny! It might be a fairy egg.

Maybe I should name her Tinkerbell! :lau Hopefully her next egg is a little bigger.

Aw it's so cute! Bless her little heart. :)

I might've encouraged her a little early! Had a little talk with my pullets about wanting to make a cake for my family member's birthday today and told them I needed them to pull their weight today and lay me some eggs, and I think she wanted to help like the other 3 girls were! :lau

Everyone who owns chickens will get some type of odd egg. Fart eggs are the most common but sometimes you may get one and not get another for a very long time and other times you may them get more often.
This is a normal large egg next to a couple of fart eggs.

This egg weighed 135 grams and was a double yolk egg inside a double yolk egg.

This was a fart egg. It had a tiny yolk. Most don't have a yolk.
