Weasels? You would be much better off with rats. Weasels seem to kill for the thrill, not just to eat AND they fit through very small holes. Aside from weasels the problem with gaps is that chickens are just about like vampires, only their problem is night not day. They will sleep next to fencing and don't move, allowing a coon to reach through the gap and grab the chicken piece by piece.That said, if your run is secure you can allow your chickens to free run between the coop and run, eliminating the need to put them to bed at night and let them out in the morning. Its also healthier for them in the winter.
