Sneezing and Wheezing cockerel *Video

This is what one book says:
LL

a)With Tylan 50 the 40 mg/kg dose = 0.36 ml per pound. That entry says in combination with Aminoglycosides, so maybe once a day would be fine.

b)says 10-40 mg/kg (0.1 ml to 0.36 ml per pound) 2-3 times a day.

c)30 mg/kg (0.27 ml per pound) every 12 hours.
I guessed 5 pounds, if she disagreed she didn't say so. Im sorry that's not a real answer.
That's close enough. I have no idea why they picked that number, it's only 5 mg per pound if I did my math correctly. :idunno

You should know that I don't normally contradict what a vet says, and I would be very careful about confronting your horse vet because it will probably piss them off. Vets really don't want to hear "someone on a forum said", that tends to make them really angry.

The sound your rooster makes is exactly like a hen that I had, but she would do it right after she ate.

Does your boy make noise throughout the day? Did the vet hear anything in his lungs?

I think @Ravynscroft already said this, but I'll say it again...

Regarding the ivermectin... if you get lucky it might treat large roundworms and maybe cecal worms, but it will not treat gapes, tapes, or capillary worms.

You could try Valbazen or Safeguard if you think it's gapes.
Equimax if you suspect tapes.

The ivermectin will treat lice and mites. Did they give you a dose for that?

Sorry I was running around. Thanks for looking into the dosage so thoroughly. Weird huh.

I won't say a word to her, she's good people and everyone else just said no. She'll get me meds when I need them as long as she can nominally attach an animals name to it. This is far from the norm here in NY, not likely to ever even get a needle, most vets come by daily, and charge for it, to do injections here. Been her client over 30 years.

He wheezes always, first noticeable Tuesday a.m. I can hear him breathe 20 feet away across the coop. He's not doing that sneeze cough thing anymore. The wheeze is like a thin whistle whimpery sound.

I'm out of my depth here. No idea if it could be gape worm. No signs of lice etc. Skin is spotless. Legs are smooth, for a Cochin anyway.

Maybe in light of the way my attempt to get him vetted today went I really would do well to just treat him myself.

For everything basically, as long as he seems well enough to handle it. So far he does.

Corid already done.

What if I do the tetracycline, since I have that. I read its good for URIs.

Safeguard, I have it for dogs in packets of powder but expired in the fall, just checked. Can get horse paste. No goat at my local TSC. Maybe not any other form, laws got tightened recently. Only Tylan for local abx.

The dog safeguard is very expensive, so maybe the horse paste would be better if you can't get the goat stuff.

Tetracycline is good for some respiratory problems, so you could try that. You say you can get Tylan?

95% sure I saw Tylan at TSC. I was not excited about giving him shots anyway! Not a big fan of needles. I do what I have to but it ruins my day. Sub cutaneous I'm better with than muscle though.

I can grab a Safeguard paste tomorrow. Might even have one but I'll have to dig around a bit. Is it a pea size each for 5 days? 19 birds. This will be fun :). I think I can get Wazine too, but that's effective on less, correct?
