Was it the same in other previous hatches? Maybe your breed/hens yield more females? If that was even remotely possible!?

It is possible. Hens throw the deciding sex chromosome, and like all animals, some genetically veer more towards one sex than the other

They probably do. I think their moms know what sex they are and treat them differently. I couldn’t believe how quickly one of our hens last spring weaned her singleton chick. By 4 weeks, on its own. It turned out to be a cockerel. But that doesn’t prove anything yet. I’ll have to let her raise more this year and see if she treats the girls the same.....

That's really interesting. My Silkie hatched some Dutch Bantams and over a year later, she is STILL very motherly to them and even tries to cover them whenever she's been broody. They're both girls Maybe this is an explanation. They're both very dependent on her as well, even though they're laying and 1.5 years old.
