I have a staggered hatch. I hatched out 8 chicks "mystery chicks" and have turkey eggs and some other eggs in there waiting till next week. I don't know if it will work out or not. This is my first time with a serious staggered hatch. My bator smells awful right now and I don't know if that will affect the hatch or not: idunno . I'm keeping
I was really hoping to hatch out turkeys this summer. My turkey hen "tina" doesn't seem to be interested in making a nest. She lays her eggs like she's poopin. Just where ever she is standing at the time. I don't know WHAT her deal is. My friend told me she's working up to laying a clutch but hasn't started on it yet. So at any rate I have 4 more turkey eggs waiting for the bator to become free.
I have to tell you tho....one of my mystery chicks is a tophat with feathered legs! CRAZY!
Nope none of us can stop if we want to we are all addicted and need some sort of support to stop . We cant get it here though as we are all terrbley addicted but also terrible enablers.
I have about 360 buckeyes and 40 black copper marans eggs cooking right now, 180 are scheduled to go in and about 130 are scheduled to start to hatch tomorrow. I use the Wednesday / Sunday method of incubation.
My 'bators were getting cold overnight late this winter and my hatch rate went down to less than 30% I was throwing away 100+ developed eggs a week!!!!!
I built a 4' X 4' X 8' cabinet around them put a baseboard heater and a small fan in it and now my hatch rate is 85%+.
Just set 12 Guinea eggs (shipped) this morning... forced air LG..
Hoping for a good hatch!
And will be picking up 5 goose eggs on the 25/26. Will be hatched in a homemade 'bator (Miss Prissy design) Again...hoping for a GREAT hatch (my first geese
)
I'm excited, my incubator has bee packed away all winter... nice to be expecting again...lol
My first hatch consisted of Barred Rocks, Dominiques, Barnevelders, BLRW, Buff Orpingtons, and Welsummers.
My bator is full now for a June hatch of: Barnevelders, Welsummers, Light Brahmas, RIR, Dominiques, Speckled Sussex, French Wheaton Marans, Partridge Penedesencas, Empordanesa, Cuckoo Marans, Gold Laced Wyandottes, and Mottled Java!!! I am sooooo excited and hope & pray for a GREAT hatch! Happy Hatching Everyone!!!
I also have 10 hamburgs, 1 brahma/EE or BR and 1 EE under a broody BO, an unkown number of eggs under a bronze turkey, and will soon have more hamburg eggs going under a light brahma that just went broody (she was sitting on the turkey trying to take over her nest until somebody laid more eggs for her to sit
) AND I am thinking about trying to get my old hovabator fixed and running again because a 24 egg bator just is NOT going to cut the mustard.
I really did try, but am already wanting MORE again! Especially since if I do not sell my serama eggs I am going to have to do something ... just cannot throw them out or eat them!
