So freaking embarrassed -- but what to do??

No, we had stink bugs when I was little and lived on the east coast. Here in the Pacific NW we have box elder beetles. Totally different. The box elder beetles didn't seem to die much last winter which was weird.

Never, ever, ever, crush a stinkbug. Box elder beetles- I have never noticed a smell from them. I have lots of dead ones sitting in the windows between the screen and the window constantly (they get trapped).

I guess it's your fault that I have them all over (and in) my tack shed, too. And, I know several other places that are crawling w/them too.

If it is the same stink bugs we have around here they are an invasive species. I have only been seeing them the last few years or so. The last couple of days there have been a ton of them. There is not much you can do really. They are looking for a place to overwinter. Last winter I found them in all kinds of odd spots, and even in mid winter they where still alive out in the garage. Other then being everywhere they don't really do anything, and my bearded dragon loves them.

The last couple of days they have multiplied into the millions it seems. I threw a handfull of mothballs in my shop-vac and went around the house sucking thousands of them up, I'll check tomorrow to see if it kills them.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

Aaaaaaaaaghhh!!!

So now the person who came over calls me and tells me that she got the bugs on her car at my house and now everywhere she goes she gets stink bugs. This of course if obviously my fault so she is taking the car to get it detailed to get the stink off.

So, then she lectures me on how if I washed my walls the bugs would go away.

cathedral ceiling. I'm gonna wash that how?? And the whole outside of the house??

This would be funny if it weren't so pathetic. Does she actually think all the stink bugs she sees come from your house? You've got more patience with "friends" than I do, that's for sure.

I'm sorry your house is invaded by stink bugs... But your friend sounds like a jerk. My moms house was also invaded every fall when I was a kid with Idaho's version of a stink bug, and I've never met a woman that keeps her house as clean as my mom. So its not your fault!

last night we turned all of the lights off but one on the top floor landing. They seem to like to be as high and close to light as possible and since we have cathedral ceilings this was the best spot to lure them.

We then filled the shopvac with bleach and sucked away! NO MORE STINK BUGS!!! Until the next batch slips in though the chimney!

Yeah, I do that too. I also leave one light on next to a bowl of water with soap in it. They're attracted to the light and die in the water. (At least in theory - often I come out just to find the light covered in bugs.)

SESA! Don't open it in the house!! If you must open it right into a trash bag and tie it shut immediately! Moth balls kill some and seem to daze some but they are by no means all dead. I have about an inch of bleach in the bottom of my shop vac and they still live.
