So this is how it all begins......**More Chicks and Pics Added**

How could you resist those faces? It's not your fault, it's theirs for being so darn adorable.

And yes, that's how it starts. 14 months ago, I started with 7 chickens. We lost 2 of those, but now we're up to 29 chickens. (only 7 of them are laying

) And it's all The Warden's fault!!!!! She keeps offering me her extras and I keep taking them!

You took my Marge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this the one a previous poster was referring to as a white one? I called her Large Marge because she was just so big and fluffy, but I think she needs a different name. She is so sweet and Marge doesn't seem quite right. Any ideas??

Your chicks are A D O R A B L E!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad to contribute to the addiction here.... because HERE is where mine started! I wanted 3-4 chickens to scratch around the garden when I am done. I googled caring for chickens and ended up here.... and with ELEVEN chicks!! Not only that, but I want more!!! I am keeping my eyes on the local feedstores because I can't quit without at least 1, well, 2 Buff Orpingtons! Sigh....

I haven't named the little brown one yet, but she is hilarious! They are in a clear type tote bin and she trots along the wall watching my every move, stopping and doing the same tilted head curious look. LOL

WOW - Marge does look like my little one! I can't wait to see how they feather out - I am betting on some beautiful ladies

This morning I heard frantic peeping and cheeping in the bathroom so I hurried to check on everybody. Frac (BR - maybe 2 weeks old? no idea) had jumped to the wall of her tote bin and then to the wall of the little chicks tote... I guess they thought that horrid looking creature was out to get them lol.

I seriously have got to have help. Today I went to see if the feed store got any BOs in their new shipment of chicks. Nope. BUT... they did get black Jersey Giants!
I only got one...put her in with the week old EEs and RIRs. At first they weren't happy, but she is snuggled with them now. I think I will go back tomorrow and get a 2nd one. And then, next week they are getting BOs (and who knows what else!) so I will get 2 more. That will bring my "3 or 4" chickens to 15!!!

good grief

OHHH YOU are SOOOO not helping my cause at all!!!! My DH is working in WA State this week and so far I have repainted the hallway and Living Room as well as re-arranged the Living room furniture..... and........ WAIT... let me back up a tad, DH left on Sunday, on Saturday he built me a wonderful chick. coop and run, finished it an hour before he was to head to the airport. He built it larger than it actually needed to be (hmm wonder if he knows me that much after 23 years lol)...... I had just 4 chicks (down from 6 thanks to a hawk).... ok back to the future here..... today I ran into Houston because I heard that Wabash Antique and Feed had chicks and juvenile chickens.... BAD Bad bad!!!! I just got two of the most adorable Silver Laced Wynedottes imaginable!!! (and picked out several more that I am going back for after I "give it more thought".... THINKING THINKING THINKING !!!!

My regular feedstore where I buy horse feed / stuff usually only orders 2-3 varieties, and only every few weeks. I found this little hole in the wall feedstore that orders about 6-7 varietes every other week! Today they had Cochins (last ones were reserved), Brown Leghorns, Jersey Giants, California Whites and various bantams. He laughed knowingly when he asked "What are you looking for?" and I said "Dunno - what do you have?"

I told him I was hoping for BOs and he said they are coming next week. Now, knowing good and well they will get other varieties too.... but I figure one more giant (that is the tiniest little baby to be called a "giant" !) and 2 BOs and I am DONE... finito!! no more!
