Old news. Most of you probably shop at Petsmartco. They jumped on this wagon and have their employees call everything from fish to rat "companion animals" instead of pets. Yes, at PETsmart, the self-proclaimed PET friendly place to bring your PET. Even though I quite working there after a few months due to a boss who was just intolerably insecure and incompetant (ie. a jerk to his or her employees), it was months too many of having to smile and hand out the little inaccurate companion animal care sheets while the PETsmart sign flashed away. Ah, gotta love it.

It's really not so much about being PC though, it is part of an agenda (as opposed to limiting actual offense), which multiple groups are trying to take advantage of in their own way (AR for different reasons than the corporate pet world). Most of the people here are probably actually PC advocates themselves. Who doesn't like swearing for instance? Show of hands. XD Come on, I've seen you give me dirty looks as I wear my band shirts around town. But yeah, wouldn't get to wound up over it. People continued to call their pets 'pets' for the most part. 'Kids' and other terms are becomming more common as pets move closer inside the family setting.

lol I saw it said that they want to OUT the word owners.. what dose that make us Companion animal holders?... the say it makes them viewd as property?,, HELLO isn't that what they are? our property.. We take care of them. We house them We feed them.. so it makes them ours. and no one can take them away other then the law if we are found to be slacking on our duities as owners.

some ppl are not happy unless their causing a rucus. but I guess its giving them something to do..

These guys would have a heart attack if they heard us. We collectively refer to the animals in the backyard (1 dog and 8 chickens) as "the idiots." Poor dog was referred to as a lard barrel yesterday, and the chickens are referred to by names like "Ostrich," "Scaredy-Cat," and "Midget." Man, they'd really freak out at that last one.

Funny thing - we still love our animals.

You could call our dog anything you want, and I doubt she'd be capable of seeing it as "degrading."

The chickens don't have the mental capacity to understand anger, let alone insults.

These goofwads need to bug off. They're annoying me. Oh, on a related note, I heard that PETA wanted to make us call fish "sea kittens," 'cause no one would eat a kitten! Not sure if I should

Gesh I hear you on "nick names" for animals.. I call our cat spooky "tape worm" cause she always is hungry. Onyx is "bit**"
Bailey our dog. is sometimes called "Stupid" and The ferrets.. lots of ppl call them Fuzzybutts of Farts lol. I call them my Furry farts.

and I still get kiss's from them all!! no matter what Im calling them
