So what are your Christmas dinner plans/traditions?

Now that all our kids are grown and not living at home, our extended family decided not to exchange gifts this year. It really has been a blessing and I wish we had done this a few years ago. It really takes the pressure off the "buying" and more on the giving of yourself.

Growing up we never had a Christmas "dinner" so to speak. Christmas was just us kids opening presents and playing, playing, playing. Other than candy, we probably didn't eat anything!!

My DH ALWAYS had a huge Christmas dinner growing up so we now have dinner! This year is a pork loin roast, done on my grill marinated and coated with apricot marinade. A few sides...nothing like Thanksgiving...that was way over the top!

We usually have little snack foods Christmas Eve, then go to church. The Christmas morning the kids open their presents and we have a huge meal.
(It better be huge, I have 3 babies to feed in my belly!)
I think Sam's parents are coming up, but not sure yet... Haven't talked to them in awhile, but I don't really care, they're not my favortie people... I'm such a mean daughter-in-law...

I'm done talking to myself now! Sorry... lol

We always have Christmas alone. It can be relaxing and romantic, but this year, my DH's daughter is very sick and continually hospitalized right now (five hours away), and I can tell it will be a lonely, quiet Christmas. He'll have to work on Friday, so maybe I can plan something nice for myself. I'd love to have my Dad & sister visit, but Dad's always so busy with his church's music program. I don't think he's ever gotten to sit down like a regular person and worship and pray like the rest of us. He's 82 and not about to change though.

Buff -

Jenny is still in my prayers.

P.S. - My Dad is 82, as well. Amazing how set in our ways we get as we age...

Family gotta love 'em.

And as far as a quiet, lonely Christmas, I've been yearning for one of those for YEARS. Can't see it happening though... Guess I should be thankful.

Since I didn't get my alone time over Thanksgiving, I'm hoping I'll get it at xmas. I'll still have some of this Boston butt left, so I'm thinking tacos and horror flicks.

Thank you AllChook. Given all you pray for, your knees must be worn out.
I was thinking yesterday of all the friends here on BYC that I care about, and it frustrates me that I can only remember a few at a time to pray for. I need to re-read some threads and make a list. There's power in prayer, if not only for the person doing the praying.

The quiet part is great, the lonely part is disheartening... You'll enjoy this Christmas day though - weren't you going to finally have a Christmas alone?

What exactly is a Boston butt? Is that good or bad? Well, either way, I'd love some tacos! Yesterday I had two scrambled eggs (giving one of the yolks to the girls), and I couldn't get them down without copious amounts of Tabasco. Taco please?

Boston butt is the half of a pork shoulder that isn't the picnic. I have a gorgeous 10 pounder on the grill. It's been cooking for more than 12 hours now. The cold weather makes it take longer, but it'll be tastastic when it's finally done.

Not anymore.

Honestly Rose, do you miss nothing?

On your "on my knees" comment, not often enough.
