So......what breed would you NOT have again----which ones didn't stick

I would never have banty's ever again, got some by mistake from feed store, what a worthless chicken in my humble opinion, just doesn't make sense to me. I know that some cutie/pet/lawn ornaments chicken owners love them but that is not my thing. I like a chicken with a purpose that pays it's way.

Leghorns

they fit through any opening, the roosters are evil, and I do not like how they look.

Really? I eat my bantams and their eggs just as I would any chicken, plus there's the added benefit of being able to keep more. I prefer larger chickens because I like having something I can wrap my arms around, but after having bantams, I think I'll stick with them because I can have ten of them where I'd normally only be able to keep 4 large breeds.

I'm glad to see someone else stick up for bantam leghorns.

I reluctantly got a trio of white bantam leghorns recently. Reluctantly, because I don't much like white birds and because I had heard all the bad things about leghorn personalities. But I gotta say, these little guys are just as calm as most of my other birds. No panicking, no thrashing. I just let them out of their quarantine cage for the first time yesterday, and they calmly explored and looked around without any fuss. I picked each one of them up, and they all accepted sitting in my lap getting patted for a bit. No problem. And even if the roo is white, I think he's still pretty handsome!

I don't like the one's the farm by my mom's house free ranges... they chase us to our cars in the morning. Their rooster sits on their mailbox and will dodge your car as you drive by. Its like a dog coming at you, but making scarier noises... I'm not sure what they all are... some are guinea's from what I was told... but I don't like any of them!

RIR's are great but do not get them from a hatchery. Find a breeders like Julie (Bamachcken) and gets eggs or chicks from them. They are so much sweeter.

I've got McMurray RIR's, and I don't like them! They're bullies, and at 16 weeks spend all their team wreaking havoc in the hen house. They pick at everyone. This morning, there were two that were constantly picking at feathers around everyone else's vents. They're currently banished to free range while the others are in the henhouse, hoping to lay eggs...

Never again will I have hatchery RIR's.
