Solstice egg

Hah! Hah! love it! I got my "solstice egg" two days ago, which was a first pullet egg from my seven-month old Black Copper Marans.

Out of twenty hens, that was the only egg I got all week.

I'm so glad the days will be getting longer!

They are already getting longer but it's sooo slow.

12-22 was 4secs longer than the day before.
12-23 was 7secs
12-24 will be 12secs
12-25 16secs
12-26 21secs
12-27 25secs
12-28 29secs

Yes I count the seconds..haha!

Will be weeks until we actually see and feel it.

Hahaha...realist.

Was wondering about the change in the angle of the sun.....wonders if the chickens are in tune to that.

This is interesting:

The sun’s position in the sky, photographed from the exact same location at the exact same time of day over the course of an entire year.

It is said that chickens can see ultraviolet light too, so that may also affect their laying schedules.

I did get an extra egg today, from one of my welsummer pullets.
