IMO, I don't think Cesar Millan is a very good dog trainer. He nearly choked a husky to death. It was attacking him, but, still... really? Choking it?!

Where did I accuse you of choking your dog

I said that the forementioned man does all of the things I listed, he is hated by so many people in the UK for his barbaric methods!
You are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to mine. If my dog is biting me, he is going to get punished in that moment with physical force. I am not going to baby that dog.

If you saw a dog attacking your child, what would you do?

I believe in shock collars as a last resort. Not for barking. Absolutely not. For training them to listen to commands YES. If a dog is chasing my poultry, I am going to correct that behaviour. I am not going to choke them. I am not going to beat them. A quick zap and a firm NO is all it takes. Same if she is about to run on the road. She gets a shock. That shock saves her life. I've lost 3 cats to our road. I am not going to lose my dogs too.
And you know what? I'm not on here saying that my dog got into the poultry house and massacred my birds. My dogs listen to me. My dogs OBEY. My dogs get love and attention and two sleep in bed with us after being invited. The other has full run of the barn, doing her job at protecting the animals within.

What about underground fences, and electric fences? What do you think of those?

What about horseback riding? They use whips in horseback riding.

This is my opinion, and bashing someone like Caeser who has helped so many people with their dogs who would frankly be dead without him - I give him credit. He is a great trainer. His dogs are happy and balanced.

Well, let's just say his methods are not viewed upon favorably by organizations like the association of pet dog trainers, the american humane association, tufts university animal behavior clinic.... just to name a few.. Then there are the big names in veterinarians, certified animal behaviorists and trainers like Ian Dunbar, Jean Donaldson, Patricia McConnelly, Pat Miller, Emma Parsons, Trisha Stewart who are all outspoken regarding Cesar's archaic concepts of alpha, dominance, pack mentality and using negative reinforcement.

I understand that people want quick and easy fixes to a difficult behavior issue. But, I encourage all those who think Cesar is a good trainer to actually spend some time researching his very controversial reputation and ask yourself if his way is the best way for your dog.

I like Cesear Millan. He's funny, and he has done miracles for death-row dogs. But he does seem slightly, well, mean. But, then again, he's dealing with death row dogs.

I don't really know what to think about him. I like, and then I dont.

But, if it was the last choice for my dog, I'd be hiring him, too.

Let's just not get into the PETA and Humane Society discussions. I've done my research on those folks, and they are terrible, horrible operations.

Cesar Millan isn't a "trainer". He fixes dogs that would otherwise be put down. His methods are harsh and there are other ways of doing it, but he does keep aggressive dogs out of the pound. Every dog is different and might need different training.

Exactly. Some dogs work better when positively reinforced. My LGD did not do well with that method. My poodle did. Every single dog is different.

Not only did he keep them out of the pound, he kept them from being euthanized, as they would never keep a dog like that for any amount of time at the pound.

Aoxa, I never mentioned PETA or the humane society. I'm sorry if you feel defensive, but the scientific research performed by actual educated professionals speaks for itself, if you took the time to open your mind and do the research.
