I do not have a problem with service dogs......in the state of Illinois if I remember right, they MUST have tags or vest to indicate they are service dogs. People got away with saying yes it is a service dog when it is really NOT. So tags or vests are necessary.
I do not have a problem with pet stores or any stores that welcomes pets. There should be a sign indicating so.
I DO have a problem with dogs into WalMart or grocery stores. What if one person wants to pet the dog, there you go, hairs aflying! Certainly there is a place and time to do it. If you are going to go shopping in the heat of day, keep your dogs home! If you insist to take the dog with you, keep it in your car and be mindful how HOT or COLD the vechile will be when your dog stays in there.
Many people overstepping the boundary issues......like my hubby's mom who has a very spoiled Pug male dog that she took it to WalMart and the staff told her that she needs to take the dog outside after they asked if her dog was a service dog or not, it was not. She got ticked and told them to mind their own business. Well the manager was called upon, and they told her with her "uppity" attitude and refusal to take her non service dog outside, they banned her from coming to the store. So her issue is the boundary issues and any rules implyied on her does NOT apply to her. And it is an attention getting tactic. Even we have informed her NOT to take her dogs to family reunions and civil War reenactments because of public exposure, other dogs and loud cannon/gunfire rounds would just overwhelm the dog. Not only that, you would be responsible if your dog bites you or threaten a diner who is trying to enjoy a dinner and a safe place to be.
Sure I could have a hearing dog (I am deaf) and they are required to wear vests and you should not approach the dog to pet. You ask the owner first before petting because the dog has a job to do. When they are off leash or off vest time, they can get all the attention and petting it would ever want. They do have down time.
Sooner or later the pet laws will start enforcing people to keep their dogs home or elsewhere rather than in purses. To me, it is a liability waiting to happen and its an attention getter for the owner who is in a sore need of public attention.
Off my soap box!
