Something got my roo! I am just amazed. UPDATE-I GOT IT!! PG 9-GRAPHIC

Well...I wish I could bring you guys an exciting hunting story about how we fought and I won...in the end, it was much simpler. I got the bugger in a trap.

She doesn't look as big as she really is because she is stretched up. She *LOOKS* cute, but if you could hear her...she was growling & snapping at us. I can't say I didn't enjoy ticking her off for sometime.

Well, we all know she wasn't leaving that trap alive....I'm pretty dang brave, but I'm not foolish.

After I was SURE she was dead...as in rigor began to set in, I finally removed her carcass and went to work doing just what I promised her I'd do if I ever got my hands on her.....

I carefully removed all of her skin, right down to her little black nose. I actually did a rather good job removing the skin, stretching her out & de-fleshing the hide. Once I got that done, I poured on a whopping dose of boric acid (20 mule team borax). I let that sit for about a day, poured it off & scraped any remaining flesh. Then I dumped on more borax.

That sat for a few days & viola!

There she is....right where I can keep my eye on her. She won't be getting into any more mischief.

Thanks guys!
DSS & I sat in the floor for HOURS scraping and pulling hide off that old raccoon, together. We talked & joked & told each other stories the whole time.

Later he told his dad that he had thought about something:
He said that when me & him are doing something like that together, we're like best-friends...but when is is a smart mouth, I get all mad & won't let him use my computer.
He said he likes it better when we are like friends & he really likes to use the computer too, so he's going to try to cut out the back talk.

Plus he's pretty impressed that a girl can tan a hide. He wants to try it himself the next time I cull a rabbit.

See? All things for a reason. I'm sorry your roo had to die for it, but if it has strengthened the bond between you and dss, then perhaps he died for a greater purpose...

THis thread is a great read! I am ready for the motion picture!
The Horror!, The Mystery!, The Investigation!, The Justice!, The complex human emotions ending a warm, loving, happy ending!

Not such a happy ending for the raccoon but if you had to do it to save the rest of your flock I won't start critisizing<(how do you spell that??) you.

Cool and GREAT job. We recently caught a beautiful fox and I couldn't bring myself to kill her eventhough she had given me heck for weeks. I wish I could have done THAT with her pelt though.
