MY CONDOLENCES AS I KNOW WHAT THEY COST....
Yes, I know what chukar flats cost as well
They are hands down, the best way to keep, store, ship, coturnix eggs. They are also way cheaper than any "Carton" if you go by the number of eggs they hold. What most folks call Quail flats are way to small for coturnix eggs, and I'm not even sure they are large enough for bob eggs. Of course, if you need cartons, then you need cartons, and have to shell out the big pennies.
The foam shippers....well, they are for people that can't manage to crumple up some newspaper, and charge more than $4/dozen for their eggs. No offense Tony. I'm just saying, if I got 10-20 bucks a dozen...I would ship them in those foam shippers. The fact that the USPS boxes are considered free (Unless you pay taxes, buy stamps, etc) is another story. Just something to think about and crunch the numbers.
Now all I need to do is cut some holes in the foam. The last time I shipped them in chicken cartons I didn't have any break so I might try that too since I have orders shipping out tomorrow, Thursday, and Monday it will give me some time to expeirment on which way works best.
I used the foam egg shippers for shipping button quail eggs and only had a 1 problem with them and that was due to a crushed box.I highly recommend them for shipping all eggs and they are fairly priced.
The boxes are always free here. They have a pile of them in the foyer and the post office workers says take as many as you need.
In N.H.,Tony.

I had this same thought last year, got the foam and everything. No matter what I did, I could not cut proper holes in it. Drills didnt work, the just spun the foam. The only thing that would remotely work was an apple corer. It wasn't worth the effort, so I just bought them already made! If you do figure it out, will you let me know?

Have you tried hole saws for your drill? I used to drill foam all the time at work. If you keep a slow speed and a little pressure on the foam it should work
