South Carolina

Hey South Carolina, just joined a few days ago. We should be getting our chicks in about 2 weeks!! First time owning chickens, but we are adding them to our 5 dogs, 1 cat, 2 turtles and 4 little fish. Any one have any great advice for a first timer?

Welcome , as for advice... you will need more space than you think, And STUDY "Chicken Math". it is best to study it BEFORE you find out what it is.

We started with 9 chickens, then 15 guinea, then added 2 turkeys, then more chickens, guineas and turkeys and now have somewhere around a hundred birds

in all.

also DO NOT buy an incubator unless you make more housing or want to build more housing.

My silkie chicks are 2 days old now, I have 5 total. 7 hatched but two were culled for leg issues, poor babies couldn't walk. The rest look look pretty great so far! I'm loving the foot feathering!
