Hi, Pink! I'm not far from you. I'm over in Greenwood County but by the lake. I haven't found any local events but I'd love to have you come out and meet. I've only been involved with chickens for about 18 months but I've gone all the way. What kind of chickens do you have?

Isn't the moon amazing???

Hmmm...I see a feather pillow and mattress in my future - with beaks and feet attached! LOL (hubby said if I brought another chicken home, I'd be sleeping in the coop.)

Great meeting you, too, snick. Have fun with that cute little girl you got.

Last Friday was very productive. Nicole and I were able to put a good bit up on the new duck coop.

This is the back window closed.

This is the window opened. Nicole was glad this worked as we put several screws in only to have to take them back out because I kept running them into the window track. But we like it because they have a screened window for summer and a bright window for winter. I will be putting more windows on the ends and one on the front, which faces east.

Here is the partition we made. I could not figure out what wire to use until Nicole reminded me I had some different sizes for other projects. We think this turned out great though. Not big enough holes for a duck to get it's head through but big enough for plenty of air flow.

Today I plan on cutting out the front panel. I have 2 pop doors to make for it and a window. I think the weather is supposed to be nice through tomorrow. Maybe I can get it finished by this weekend and get my Runners into breeding.

Nadine- Your coop is looking good!

I'm thinking of ordering a baby pool-The hard plastic kind (not the flimsy plastic) for the ducks, but I'm also not so sure cause it wont be deep enough for swimming.

I use the plastic kind from target/walmart for mine. And a stock tank from TSC.

I was using the stock tank for the pekins BUT they are so heavy, have a hard time climbing in and out. So mallards use it now. Pekins use the plastic pool. They have two different depths to choose from - I need to go grab a couple more - they come in handy when the ducks are running loose out in the yard

Which kind of baby pool you mean? Not sure if the cheap plastic ones are what you are calling flimsy but they hold up better than I thought they would. We dump ours out daily and refill it. Have had it a year in June.

ETA it does bend a little when one of us lifts it, but so far no cracks, breaks etc.

I use the kiddie pools from Walmart but yesterday at TSC saw they had the big plastic tubs on sale for $50. We could not get it in the toy car Terry drives so I will go back later this week and get it in my old jalopy.
I did, however, pick up a big new wagon! I have to put it together but it will be much nicer to pull the water barrels around the farm in. The other one is very little but I have sentimental attachment since my dear old dad used to pull his junk out to curbside with it.

Anyhow, the big tubs are 110 gallons. They are deep but I plan to put blocks in it so they can get out. It will be for general use since I will have 4 duck pens when finished.

Thanks for the compliment on the coop! I am cheating and having one delivered later this week. I will have to do the modifications on it but I will be closer than I am now.
