I lovee them! I think Wyandottes might be my fav breed (right now at least!) The babies LOVE the tractor! I put my 4 wk olds and some 2 wk old Orpingtons I got from Mary (Southern Bee Lady) in there. They have been having so much fun running around. I gave them some leftover spaghetti noodles and they REALLY went crazy! haha..

I have no idea what these "black star" chickens should officially be called. I only know they are not sex-links. The person who had them didn't know anything else about them and that's what they called them. Now the roosters have a beautiful comb, it's cupped like a star. The birds are black and I don't believe the hens had as fancy of a comb. When they hatch, the little roos look like polish crested chicks. They really have a crest on their head. Very unusual birds. Wish I had pictures to share. I'll get some pictures next time.

The guineas are laying great if I can just keep them laying the same places so I can find the eggs. I collected 15 eggs from them yesterday. They like to make things interesting for me and move the nests around though. I always mark some eggs and leave them in the nest so they maybe won't notice how many eggs I take out.

I wonder what they are? I have Googled Black Stars and all I get are sex links. Feathersite shows them as sex links and I can't find any other info on anything else called Black Stars.
Can't wait to hear what the birds are that this man has. I would like to see photos. Always interested in a new other breed.

Whew! Just got caught up on the last 5 pages! Y'all make me realize I need more tomatoes! I think I might plant a garden just to feed the chickens some treats. I surely can find a little corner somewhere! I've been dealing with these wry necks for the last week. Two died although they surely gave a fight! Three recovered. I'm getting four new coops this week! A friend of mine is copying my existing playhouses. All of my silkies will be separated by color as will my Ameraucanas and Marans. I'm moving all the layers out to a fenced pasture in their own big coop. My little/big chicken world feels huge now. I'm also really excited that we have four paint silkies. They are so cute! It will be several months before they are old enough to breed but I'm excited anyway.

Hope everything enjoyed this nice day. Yesterday was a windy mess! But I'm glad we got some rain.

on the paint silkies! Will be interesting to follow along as you grow them up and start breeding them! Those are some I am watching development of from afar, nothing I want to try

I just do not like the whites too much. They seem to always be the big winners, but just not my thing. Maybe I would change my mind if I had some

Our laying flock is pastured too. Seems the birds are so much happier out chasing bugs!

Speaking of chores, tractors, and of course chickens....I finished my pallet coop today. 1 pallet on each side with tin nailed to them to cover holes/gaps (free), 1 2x3 as a diagonal brace in back ($1.27), 3 2x3 for lateral support across the top ($4), 1 2x3 on the inside for a lateral roost post ($1.27), 4 sheets of 8'x2.5' tin ($48), and 1 4x4 sheet of 1/2" plywood for the front wall ($5). All in all the GRAND TOTAL of the GREEN COOP is $60.

The pictures I don't think show it, but the roof slopes to the front for water runoff. Also, the fence and pvc posts (used to hold up fence) were free as well.

The run area, excluding the 40 sqft. coop is approximately 140sqft.

In this pen, I have Delwares (4 pullets, 1 roo), 2 SLW pullets, 2 Amer. pullets, and 2 Speckled Sussex. Once they get a little bigger, this will be the permanent Delaware pen. The 2 SS are going with the rooster I got from Jack at the swap in a 4x4 coop with an attached run.

The 2 Amer. pullets are going with my EE rooster I posted a picture of a couple weeks ago. He has his own kingdom, just waiting for his 2 ladies. (4x8 coop w/ 150sqft run). Well, I take that back. He has a queen, Matilda (BSL), and their babies will be interesting to see.

And ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE about the 2 SLW. Thought about putting them with my RIR pen, b/c their babies will then be red sex-links. I believe that's all I have for now!

Four of my chickies died Saturday night

They must have run out of the coop during the storm. I checked them before it really started storming and they were all inside. . .3 silkies and one teeny bantam.

Otherwise the weekend has been great

Hubby said I could replace those chicks, but to make sure to get hens

I told him I would wait until after we butcher the meaties. If I can wait that long
