Note to self: Ducks seem to be more self-centered than chickens... if that's possible. Think hard before getting ducks. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm dying for ducks! I just put a dozen guinea eggs under my two broody silkies. To which my husband asks, "Are you sure we want guineas?" At this point, Darling, it's a mute point. If they hatch, they hatch. If they don't, they don't. If you hate them, I'll sell them. Men.... (apologies in advance to any men... but if you're reading this you are more tolerant and informed than my loving husband)!

Ummmmm......so I'm the only one who's had duckys in their bath tub?

I've also had chicks in the bathtub and I once raised my bassett hound puppy in the bathtub til she was housetrained. That bathtub is the easiest thing in the house to clean, pour bleach and rinse. You can keep a LOT of chicks in the bathtub.

BTW Amy, if you pipe the drain for the duck pond make sure and use large enough pipe to accomodate all of that duck muck that will be washed away with it. We piped our drain but it gets stopped up a lot. And one more thing to think about, it's not too much fun to put your hand down in that mucky, stinky water to find the drain and open it. I'm still working on the perfect duck pond, haven't figured that one out yet.

We LOVE our guineas. They're fantastic pest control, better than any other bird I have. My son (the 16 year old) was outside yesterday and saw an ant (not a fire ant, just a regular ant...outside) he yells to me "Mom, you need to get more guineas - I see an ant!"

No problem, I can do that! We don't have fire ants, even though all of our neighbors are covered up with them. I love me some guineas.

Well, I won't mention I had a full grown runner (Nicole's late DuckDuck) that did that..........

DuckDuck was special and therefore deserved all of those special privileges.

I imagine she'll have some of these new babies spoiled exactly the same way very soon.

I use my spare bathroom as a nursery all the time! Guaranteed to be the cleanest tub in the house!

I lost my very first chick this morning. My favorite EE passed away. She was 3.5 weeks old. Sadest thing is, I had 2 seperated out yesterday all day because I thought they were the only 2 pooping bloody stools. I must have sat out there most of the day and watched and they never pooped any bloody stools. I got them some medicated feed in hopes of saving them and then wake up this morning and she is gone! There are now more bloody stools. I fear it is just too late. I only pray my almost 6 week old chicks stay safe. They are in the coop away from the brooder where the others are but still I am worried. We have 1 EE left and 3 SLWD now. I only hope I don't lose anymore.
