UPDATE on SL bantam POLISH:
So today ALL are doing great and acting good. Three more days of treatment then all good!!
Treated with Sulmet and it has seemed to work.

DH found one of our young BCM hens dead this morning. She was fine when all were left out of coop this morning but a little while longer and she was dead. This is a young mix of Marans and Welsummer yet to lay pullets......18 - 20 weeks, along with their young roos. Later this afternoon he noticed that Cornelius our Welsummer teenage roo was trying to get busy with some of the hens. We think he or one of the other roos got too aggressive with the young girl. Time to build a new bachelor pen.

Kota, our Anatolian, killed an armadillo last night! It was just outside the turkey pen. I know they don't kill birds, but I still am glad it's gone, they can carry leprosy. Funny looking animal, I'll try to upload a picture later.

Whoa, I didn't know we had armadillos in SC! That's cool. Also didn't know they were carriers of leprosy - scary! I've loved Anatolians ever since a lady brought one in to Petsmart when I worked there in college. Some crappy family had left him tied up to a tree for two weeks without food when they PCS'd out of Ft. Bragg. He was just the biggest, sweetest baby though! He'd always come right in to my table for dog food samples.

I know a bunch of people will be there with animals, crafts, produce and the farm store inside has fresh meat and produce.

Tables available if needed, bring chairs. Canopies set up for shade, and a hose for water
Farm store carries drinks and snacks, but feel free to bring your own.
Chickens, Rabbits, Ducks, Quails, Turkeys, goats and more.
Crafters welcome too

Here's the armadillo! I knew that they had spread to south carolina in recent years, but this is the first time we've seen one on our property. You can see where Kota bit the back of his shell and his head. Anatolians are just big sweet love bugs to their people (Kota doesn't know he's 140 pounds and still tries to climb up into my lap) but anything he views as a threat is taken down. He especially hates snakes. There are feral cats around here that he chases off, but hasn't caught and killed one yet. He loves our cats though, and views them as part of the 'pack'. Strange how he can tell the difference between 'his' cats and feral cats.

I had to look up armadillo predators and coyotes are at the top of the list. I know coyotes have only been in SC for 30 years, so I wonder if people are bringing all these things here or they're just migrating.

Did you get Kota locally? We'll probably be looking for a LGD in a year or so. I see Great Pyrenees a lot, but Anatolians seems less common.

Hello from Bluffton! I am new to keeping chickens. Having moved from Philadelphia, behng in SC finally allows me to live the country life. My coop is going up and chicks will be arriving in three weeks. The excitement is overwhelming!!
