I have 5 eggs from my Big Red ( RIR hen) and Lucky (BLRW Roo)....they are my favs as they are my first chickens...I was wondering if there would be people interested in the chicks if I do...I have some in now for myself and wasnt going to hatch any more of them for now but got curious if someone would be interested...they should be great egg layers.

I am going to hold off on getting chicks or adding to my adult flock till spring I realy want more Barred Hollands and a couple more blue egg layers.. not sure if im gonna go for ameraucauna or aracuana ... maybe 2 or 3... not sure..

hey what are the olive egg layers.. ??? that would be cool to have a hen or two that lay green eggs..

Olive Eggers are a cross between a blue egg layer with a dark egg layer (Americauna x black copper maran usually). I have a few, mine are really beautiful blue hens with the muffs and also feathered legs. I have a really sweet splash olive egger roo that needs a new home. His name is Oliver, and he's extremely friendly if anyone is interested.

I am D'uccle crazy myself...adding my 3 eggs from this week in bator tonight!! I want to wait until tomorrow because I am sure she will prob lay one tomorrow but I want to be sure I am home for hatch days!! I am regretting the sunday night hatch since they will be popping on a work night/day!! I Love my self blue oe's too though!!

D'Uccle's are highly addictive!

They have the biggest yard of all my chickens. I love to see the little chicks hatch and the adults have such personality they're fun to watch. Not to mention beautiful. And this year, I've had several people report hatching some pretty rare colors from my eggs so now I feel the need to hatch everything I can to see what I get.

I get golden necks, lemon, blue/buff, silver laced, mahogany, lemon blue, blue and of course mille fleur. It's very exciting to watch what they grow into.

Oh my...so many colors....I am in trouble!! I just have white and Millie...so far....I think I must have more!!LOL I believe I am on your waiting list for Millie but I have the trio, maybe I need to pick another color? Or just add to my wants for your list!Hehe

Blue/buff and blue sound very interesting and my mom has a gold neck roo so I would think she needs a hen? And laced?? hmmmmm...I must plan more coops!!

dixiebeast,
my white d'Uccle girl still hasn't laid. She must be younger than yours. She is in with her handsome new husband, Toby.

I know the chicks will be mixed but have seen some cute photos of bearded chicks with wattles. If I sell any chicks I will be sure to tell the buyers they are mixed so they won't think they are pure d'Uccle since Toby is a Booted Bantam. But they are adorable together!

They going out in the grass every day for some play time and devour meal worms from my hand and then search the grass for any dropped ones.

I am down to only 3 Porcelain d'Uccle extra roos. One is so sweet I am not sure how I will be able to part with him but I have his full brother and several sisters so I had to choose another boy as my back up breeder. Though not as nice of quality, I still like Scooby. And I have all these eggs in the bator that the breeder sent me!

That means more boys to find homes for.

You know I still find it odd that these are considered 2 different "breeds" as they both came from the same crossing. There was a man in Belgium that crossed the D'Anvers with a feather footed bantam in an attempt to get a single combed, small booted bird. These are the two body types he got from that crossing. They are the same in every way except the D'Uccle has beard and muffs and the Booted doesn't. There shouldn't be any problem pairing those if you want to. I have only my original D'uccle bloodline but still occasionally get some that are just ""booted". They both came from the same place, it's just a matter of genetics I guess. But for me that's almost like saying two brothers are considered different families because one is blond and the other is brunette. They may look different but they still have the same parents.

Ain't it truth!
I am taking 2 up to Morganton to see about selling. If they come back home then maybe I will get some girls (from what I keep) to hatch but I will probably have to order a few pullets next spring to pair up with the extra boys.

It is getting to where I won't have a whole to take to Morganton. I know Debra has sold down enough and hasn't hatched as may lately so she isn't going to sell.

I love hanging out with Debra, she is fun.
And with DH going I guarantee you we will be bringing more home. He loves EE's, Ameraucanas or Marans. But you never know what will catch his eye. Last Feb. it was all I could do to keep him from bringing home a Turkey! And we were in a small rental car!
This year we are taking my truck and I fear what he will get for me to have to take care of.

Jackie took off to the Albino Skunk fest near my place this morning. She swung by to pick up eggs from me to show off.

I am about to head to the church with a big box of small eggs for the food pantry and dinner.

I got the canvas up on 3 of the M*A*S*H units and will probably do more in the next week. It went pretty quickly.
I have some clear thick plastic left from doing the greenhouse project so I will probably use that down on the barn coops to block the wind and rain this winter. I may put it on one side of the blue/yellow tractor, too for the d'Uccles. Let's light in but keeps the wind out of their run.

Here are 2 of the 3 I did this morning.
I left the east and south sides open and about 6" around the top so on some very warm days the birds will still have air circulation. Depending on how bad our weather is this winter I may do the south side, too. I will just watch and see.

The north and west sides are covered because of harsh winds. I always keep the west side closed up against the summer sun and really wanted to put plywood on that side and paint "See Rock City" on it. Haven't gotten that far yet. But the north winds can be rough on birds so I make sure that is covered well.

Joy, they are the same club but they are different birds. Although I am crossing the different breeds I think they will be adorable but will make sure I don't sell anything without folks knowing they are crossbreeds. I try to stay close to the standards but still like crossing what I want, too. There are other differences to note but these listed below are the easiest to spot.

Quoted from the SOP "Although the weights of the TWO BREEDS are the same ONE MUST always keep in mind that these are TWO DIFFERENT BREEDS and there are Major differences in the two Breeds. The Booted Bantam has no Beard, has Large Wattles, is Taller and has a "U" shape between the head / neck and tail. Because there is d'Anver blood in the d'Uccle bantams the d'Uccle is a shorter bird, has a broader breast, Bull neck, very, very small wattles (or none) and a "V" shape between the Head/neck and Tail."
