Southern 101---Explanation of all things Southern

Flush a Twinkie? That's just not right. That would be like throwing out those little chocolate covered never rot donuts just because they've been in your truck since last fall.

A dear friend of mine who is a native Kentuckian quite often tells me "I'm tarred" and I find it EXTREMELY difficult not to add "and feathered?"

Husband still laughs at me because I like ahrnge juice, not or-ange juice.
Or because I pick up the house.
Or because I'm fixin' to smack Purple Chicken.

A comedian explained this phenomenon one time by saying that the # of consonants in the English language MUST stay constant, so the northern "R"s migrate to the south, thus the "r"s from pahking the cah in the yahd become inhabitants of the southerner's "earl" wells . Another colloquialism (although this one is prominent in KY also) is saying, "I carried ____ to the store". Really now? Wouldn't it have been easier to have taken them in the car? I hope it wasn't too long a walk...

People actually EAT twinkies???

Why is it Aunt Betty can say the most vile things about someone add "god bless her" at the end and think it makes it ok?

What's to explain? Everyone loves us Southerners, if only just to make fun of us! I make no apologies for my southern twang, it is what it is and I am what I am!
