My mild Georgia accent comes back in a few days when I'm around
southern friends or family.

Wait until you come back up here to NY to visit and you bring your twang with you.
Good luck...

TennesseeTruly may have a reason to go visit in NY because of family ties, etc but as for me, I have lost nothing in NY and no desire to go there for a visit. I must say though that here lately a lot of "northern folk" several of which have transplanted here in our area are quite pleasant to deal with. I work for our local electric utility company and I work in the department where you go to set up new service. All these northern transplants seem very gracious and expressed gratitude for our helpfulness. Some have even said something to the effect of "What a welcome and pleasant surprise to speak to people who are willing to go out of their way to help a newcomer." I always tell them "You're gonna like living here!" and I know that they do. We got it going on down here in the South!

My sons were all raised in Michigan where there isn't much of a local accent. My oldest son lived in Texas for a while and rodeo-ed for a couple of years. He worked in the oil fields of Louisiana with mostly Cajuns. He married a girl from eastern Kentucky and they now live in southwest Missouri. Sometimes I think I need an interpreter to talk to him.

daddy's family is from Alabama, my 'pa and grandpa are here in Michigan to go to work for GM, ma's family is all Texans.

I love both states, and have spent time in both even though I grew up here in michigan for the most part.... but........... I'd rather be down south! Texas preferably. Love the pace of life there. Little slower than I'm used to, and thats what I like it. Don't have to rush rush rush rush rush.
