Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Well it couldn't get any worse. Someone has stolen my identity..Who would want to be me.
Of course my husband is blaming me for it. Why I haven't a clue. I feel pretty helpless at this point.
You try to be a good person and this is the SHIrT that happens. I can't even get my credit report from one of the agencies because I answered the security questions wrong. At least for the new way "Carol" has them answered.
Yikes. Scary shiRt.

IMHO your husband is angry at the unknown party and frustrated that he can't protect you and is taking it out on the nearest person - you. Which of course makes no sense.

Maybe your local FBI office can help in some way. Ditto on the Lifelock suggestion.

And it could always be worse. You could be me. At this point, I'd pay someone to take my credit rating.

Oh now that isn't good. a friend of mine out on L.I. had her identity stolen via stolen mail. It was quite an ordeal fixing it.I wish you a speedy recovery.

I'd be feeling like opening a can of whoop arse..........

I've seen the life lock plan on tv and it seems like a smart idea.

I got a notice from Chase bank yesterday.
Well I *thought* it was real.
My computer told me it was a phishing site, and wouldn't let me read the e-mail.
I replied to the sender, telling him to go do something to himself.

Scary world we are living in. VERY scary.

My cell just rang. Amex fraud dept.
An online transaction for $2250.
They declined the charge, and are sending out a new card.

Good grief!!!!!!!!!!!

last year my discover card was run to the limit "online" by someone buying plane tickets to texas.I got my $$ back but was warned to be carefull using cards at the stores themselves now cause people can "scan" them standing a few feet away from me as I check-out??

OK Roberta , I got rid of my beetle (at least my husband did) so now what's the connection, oh yah chickens.....
I love that you say "fool" with me. Iam so much harsher.
I supposedly have another mortgage that I took out in 2007. I hope it's in a better neighborhood then the one I live in now.i can't even get my husband to buy me a little piece of land somewhere so I can pull an airstream onto it.
I have to joke cause I'm ready to lose it.
Do you guys run the free credit report once a year?i tis from the 3 companies and it is indeed free. I will forever more.
I figure I'll do it in January same month I make a gynie appointment yes I am sick....

People suck. They find so many ways to steal your information. I travel a lot, and I have been seeing a lot of warnings against the radio frequency credit and ID cards (cards that are "hands free" and can be scanned from 18 inches away secondary to a passive radio frequency implant). Well a thief can scan your purse or wallet while standing next to you and steal your information (or just pay themselves directly with a transaction). They do it at airports a lot because they know you are either getting on plane and traveling for many hours (or potentially for weeks if you are going on vacation) and so they have time to use the card and hide their tracks. It is so ridiculous that in this day and age we have to go back to using cash only for transactions or risk theft of identity. I shred everything. I don't give out my real birthday or address or home number. I won't use a RFID enabled card. I hide my transactions when I do them. I keep an eye on service people when they take my card (like gas stations and restaurants and such). It would still be simple for a thief to steal my identity. All they need to do is snap a pick of your card and the code on the back. How long does that take. Do you watch where the server goes when they collect your check? Think about how often we give out information.

Given all that has happened to each of you, I am going to take it as fair warning and put a charge limit on all of my cards and start paying more with cash only. I am off to google myself right now and see how hard my info is to find. Given that my number is listed, I am guessing that reverse lookup will reveal my home address. Geesh.
