That's too bad. I'm not one of the ladies but just getting going with my 6 and with the possibility of neighbors ruining my new found hobby ticks me off. I'm glad it worked out for you though. Out of curiosity, what town are you in? I am in Selden, which is part of the ever loved Brookhaven township and I like the prospects of more than 6.
On another note...got my 3 1/2 - 4 week olds in the run today stretching out before the rain comes. Must be a funny sight, 6'3" male sitting on a milk crate in the run reading a book watching his chickens...there's a visual

We see you..............

We're all doing the same darn thing.

Nothing better than a man and his chicks!

I live in the Town of Huntington and we have a limit of 8. After you get started and the neighbors get used to the idea, who knows? Some random chickens may find their way into your yard.

That's what happened to me. I started with 4, then got up to 14, then down to 9 then back up to 14, etc. etc. No matter how many you have, it always works out to be the Town limit.

Chicken math. I have a degree in it...
She really does have a degree in that. And we all graduated from her class as A students.

I, too, love the idea of a fellow enjoying a good read in the pen with his chickens surrounding him!

CheekyChick, it sounds like you've got a lot on your plate, but mostly fun family thing with the communion party and the trip upstate for the festival. I'm hoping thst you have a greast time!

What a gorgeous day today is! I walked my dog 2 miles, and I'm about to bring some apple cores, carrot stubs, and lemon rinds out to The Bawkettes.

PS-- Today is Day 18 for my hatching eggs incubating. No pips as of this morning. Gosh, I am really hoping to bring home these baby chicks by Friday! (They are being hatched in a school class hatch project ) We're setting up the brooder box this evening. I've never raised, nor even held, a baby chick before, and I've never seen a bantam chick (or adult) before. My fiance's the super-experienced one. I'm so excited!

It just never gets old!

Carolyn, I know someone in Canada, her name here on BYC is barngoddess and she has Marans and Silkies to name a few. She also struggles to get things shipped to her home in Canada. I will talk to you about it more when I stop by tomorrow. In the meantime I'll PM her to see if she's willing. When do you need it by? We were planning on meeting up at a show in Ohio later this year.

Oops using my smarter than me phone again. OK never mind. Glad you got it!

You are too funny!! I have to take my husband to pick up his car in the morning around 9:30 or 10am. I should be back home by 10:30 for sure. Any idea when you might be here? Just a broad range of time is fine. If I don't answer the door, I'm in the backyard.

So excited.

I like that math a lot and was already planning on it...lol. I have an advantage that the guy behind me has about 9 that I have counted and the house next to me is currently not lived in. The way I see it is that if my beagle hasn't caused calls to the town with that wretched noise that exits his throat then my chickens shouldn't either. I would like to add a buff Orpington and an Araucana (or however you spell it), not to mention several others, but those are my next must haves.
Hope everyone had a nice day...rain coming tomorrow. Can't say I'm too upset, lawn and garden needs the drink.

Mags, what kind of babies are hatching under your broody Silkie? I bet she's a picture, all focused on her eggs when she hears the peeping!

Carolyn, I'm so glad you're able to get the cute bee luggage! Wonderful!

Speaking of Araucanas.

I have a new group of 8 eggs in the bator . Started yesterday. Trying a dry hatch this time. I really wished I had a broody hen to have stuck them under. The woman I got them from says it is an extremely difficult breed to hatch. Everyone keep you fingers crossed.

Only have my tomatoes to stick in the ground and maybe another pepper or two. I will pick up the plants when I go to Brimfield next week. Its a famliy run farm and their plants are beautiful and very reasonable. Suzanne, brimfied is a place you and bobby have to check out. Thousands of antique dealers invade the town for about a week. They also have the largerst tractor supply I have ever seen. Heading up to Boston after brimfield. Can't wait to see the look on the bell hops face when he has to put a flat of plants on the cart for me.

I truly think I was sent a salmon Faverolle rooster instead of a girl from Ideal. Just my luck. Dark brown and black as opposed to the blonde and biege one. Just can't stand the thought of dealing with them again.

Have a great day with your peeps.
