Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

My Daisy (3 lb chi) is like my kid. I got her when she was 11 ozs. I didnt realize it at the breeder how small she was. All I saw was this cute face with little wrinkles on her forehead, but when I got her home I freaked out. I compared her to my other chihuahua (Rocco 7lbs) she was like the size of a mouse compared to him. I was so scared I was responsible for a little lilfe like this, why did I get her? Now she's my girl and goes every where with me. Thanks for the color explanation

Remember your math. New snowblower + generator = no snow.

Glad to hear your power's back, Al. We were out about 6 days with Irene. Even with the generator it was a big pain.

We had chicken school tonight. I got on my hands and knees (ouch) and chased/coaxed/carried each chick to the landing on the ladder. They each went up the rest of the way on their own. It had gotten pretty dark and cold and they were kicking up a big fuss in the run. Hopefully they learned about going up the ladder. I had put the light on in the coop and the big girls had gone up already. I watched the last little chickie go in and she cowered in the doorway when she first got to the top of the ladder. Aggie was glaring at her and she sort of ran past her.

I wonder if I should lock the big girls out until the little girls go up.

Right now, they're all doing that feathered meatloaf thing that's so cute.

I managed to get some work done this weekend. I'm still swamped, but a little more organized and a little less overwhelmed.

Al math, hmm. Nah, can't trust it. It was my neighbor's idea originally, and he moved to Florida! I'm not kidding.

Sounds like you made progress with the chicklettes tonight. Small steps each day, and before you know it, they'll be going in by themselves.

Ours went in the coop today as the melting snow from the trees rained down on the coop and run. Some roosted, others just squawked on the floor. Eventually they went out again.

Good luck tomorrow.

Morning, guys.

It was 23 degrees when I went out to the coop to feed the chickens. Fortunately, the waterer was not frozen. It is dipping down way low here now and I have to get that heater and some electric run soon. There is never enough time for everything.

Hope you all are alright, and the lights are on and the heat is working and things are getting back to normal. Whatever normal means?

Still got six eggs today. I don't know how they do it.

How is it, when I get up enough nerve to kick everyone outside that have been living inside.....
It starts FREEZING??? It looks like I'm gonna have a peahen, and a rescue rooster in the house all winter.
At least the family KNOWS not to come to our house for the holidays. EWWW, what did I just SIT IN??

Really, it's just a plot to have peace and quiet.
Oh, and remember, I just hatched 7 chickies. Those, too, will be inside for the long haul.
Yippee. Still sick, and at work.

Al, how's the house? Will it last for a while, or does the siding need to be done right away?
Hope it's not vinyl. When we did ours, we found out the hard way....in this weather, very hard to work with.
It just explodes when you try to cut it. Every piece had to brought inside to warm up to cut. PITA!
