Well long story short.... I did install and wire the transfer panel, poured the concrete pad and installed the generator and ran all wires in conduit into the transfer panel. So yes all the work is done BUT one big thing is missing.......PROPANE....... I have the propane company coming out this Thursday to install the tank and run the gas line. So to answer your question, no it didn't help us this time around but after Thursday all I have to say is bring it on baby!!!!!

Well, that's kinda good, for everyone else. After Thursday, we are guaranteed to never lose power this year!!!
Now if you could only make it never snow ever again.....

My wife said the same thing. I hope we loose power soon so I can do the "Happy Dance" when it comes on.

As for the snow, well lets only hope.

LOL LOL LOL. I had a feeling you were seeing Alan. He is a great guy and doctor. We went to high school together. He bought the house across the street from us a few years back. His wife liked our chickens and the idea of fresh eggs so they got some this spring. Yea it is a small world. I hope you are feeling better.

Rich, doing much better as the eyes are slowly getting back to normal. It takes up to six weeks for the nerve palsy to disappear.

When Allan asked if I had chickens as soon as he came in, I thought I had caught some kind of Avian disease from the chickens and it showed up in the blood test. That ran through my mind until he said that I speak to his neighbor on BYC. I said who, and he said Rich, I said, ChickenDude? He said, yeah, Chickendude, and we both had a laugh. His aren't laying yet and I told him mine are all laying every day. Then we talked about feed and how mine are a few months older than his.

Amazing how many of us are chicken heads. We're even making inroads into the medical professions!

Rich, I'm thinking of doing the same thing. When we first moved up here we would lose power if somebody sneezed. Then a tornado hit the house and we were out for three days. At least that was summer. We were good for about 10 years after they had trimmed back all the trees, then it started again. I had gotten a small 1850 watt generator and that worked pretty well but I have oil heat and a pellet stove, so I thought I could use the generator. We tried it on the pellet stove one winter and it fried the control board. I have not even wanted to try it on the oil fired furnace. I need to get a generator with a regulated inverter that can be used to run computers and anything electronic. I want to hook it into my main panel too, but am not sure about getting a large unit sitting on a pad. There are a few high end portables that can give me enough juice to sit out an outage.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of generator did you get?

Al

Bobby got a generator earlier this year. It's a portable, but he wired it to the panel to give us power all over the house. He ran it through the dryer plug I think. It worked out great. He hooked up in time for Hurricane Irene. Coz there's no way we were gonna be without the Internet...

Much better day today. Despite the dizziness, I got a lot done at school. The kids are really coming around and we've started to bond. I feel more connected to the school, too. It's going to take a while to feel like it's my classroom, and I don't know if I'll ever feel safe in my job again, but for this year it's going to be great. Got the conference schedule worked out, too!

I made an appointment with the ENT doc, but they had to cancel it. I feel a little better. It may have been blood sugar related. I felt much better after eating an apple this afternoon. I'm going to do a sinus rinse to see if that helps. I feel very sinusy.

The wake wasn't awful. Got to see some of Bobby's relatives that we haven't seen in a long time. They were very puzzled when we told them about the chickens. I got a kick out of hearing Bobby tell the carpenter ant story.

But the best news of all is that when we got home, ALL the chickens were in the coop. Good thing, too. No way I was getting on my knees in a dress and high heels!

I took the "fence" down that separated the babies from the big girls. I'm hoping that helped them feel secure enough to go up to "bed" by themselves. Whew. About time!

How's everyone feeling?

Hi Suzanne, good to hear things at school are really falling into place. Sorry the dizziness is still acting up. If it persists, please see the ENT. You don't want to wind up with an infection. The rinses help me, and my ENT is a big proponent of using it.

Sorry again about Bobby's aunt. Weddings and funerals are where relatives reconnect as we get older, caught up in busy lives and more spread out. It is a shame.

Yeah, puzzled is a "kind" word for what most think of us chicken raisers. Many are closet poultry lovers too.

Good to hear the chickens are making their way into the coop on their own. That has to be a load off your knees and back. One less thing to deal with.

I had a pretty good day with getting the green light that my eyes will return to normal soon. Finding out my opthamologist is Rich's (Chickendude) neighbor was a blast. The arthritis issue was not so bad today. Jack is improving but has to remain at the vet for at least another day or two. His kidney function is getting better, he is passing more urine and he did not vomit today. All in all! an excellent day I'd say!

Yay! All good news on your end!! So glad your eyes will be okay. That's got to be scary. I loved reading the exchange between you and Rich about the doctor. Six degrees of poultry.

I'm still dizzy this morning, which is disappointing. It's not full-blown vertigo, which I dread because I really can't function that way. I didn't make another appointment with the ENT because scheduling is so hard and I was feeling better, but I'll call today. I can't afford to let this get any worse.

Lonnnnggg day today. Tutoring after work, then I teach an SAT class from 7-8pm. I got a call from another tutoring client yesterday. I'm supposed to hear back from him, but I almost hope I don't. I'm so booked right now. Losing my job made me so insecure about finances, I loaded up my schedule with private tutoring. Now that I'm back to work, it makes a heavy load. But with looming budget cuts and no income for the summer next year, I feel the need to squirrel some cash away just in case. Good thing I love what I do!

Suzanne, it is either feast or famine. No work or being overloaded. We just can't win. In this time of economic uncertainty you are doing well by trying to bank a little extra for a rainy day. The most important thing is your health. Please see the ENT. I know I waited too long with the sinus problem and paid the price. I simply assumed the surgery last year had all the issues fixed. One can never assume.

Having a job you love is one of life's great pleasures. Most never get luckily enough to say that. That, along with being happy at home Just can't be beat.

Have a great day.
