Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Minus 9here, but only 8inches of snow! I hear you have much more. My girls are happy, they were milling around in the coop which they had heated up to a balmy one degree. They refuse to come out when there is snow, so I'll keep the door shut to let them keep their warmth in a bit. They still have vents up in the gable ends of the coop.

Happy New Year.
mine won't come out in the snow either, so I don't even try to get them out. They will walk the path I shovel to and from the coop after it melts down to the dirt though, so I expect they will be cooped for a few days. Little princesses.

Hi, I have 6 hens, no roosters. They are all less than a year old, this is our first experience with backyard chickens. I am so happy with how it's turned out, can't imagine not having the girls now.

I have lucky 13. A mixed bag of standards and bantams. NN,Ameracanua ,silkie, aruacana , Russian Orloff ,RBLW,Marans, and a tiny frizzle. Three I purchased and the rest I hatched myself. Can't remember how long I've had them.
Worried that a few will follow me home from the poultry conference in a few weeks. Two little silkies did last year.they slept in the hotel bathroom .it was like a rock group spent the night.my friend Loretta got two rose comb RIRs and they stayed in the closet. Very funny.

Where is there a poultry conference?

Where is there a poultry conference?

It's the Northeastern Poultry Congress, held in Springfield MA ,January 18-19. This year they are hosting the APA nationals so it's suppose to be fantastic. You'll never see so many beautiful birds in one place.i went last year and had lots of fun.i don't know why I called it a conference, must be the scientist in me.
I took the ferry over in the morning and stayed over at the host hotel (Sheraton or Marriott) too early to remember.hopefully the weather will cooperate. If you google it you can find out more.
