Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

Hello, there. same to you how many do you have? I'm in Lindenhurst. if have 17 maybe 16 if the roo doesn't learn to be a lil less noisy. anyone else from "the island".
Hey there. I am in medford. In the process of buying a house so right now all my birds are out east in the hamptons at my parents house until I close on this house. I have 34 out there and then 5 here in medford where I live. I can't wait to get all the birds back in my possession. That's a lot of chickens to have in Lindenhurst, do you have a bigger property than most?

Hi there, my property isn't that much bigger. They don't free range. I took my kids old wooden playset and made a enclosed run for the girls and the "fort" part I made into a coop. They're not laying yet. Only hatched in August and I got the layer package from mcMurray. So they' re a Mish mosh of birds mostly brown leghorns.

The poultry show sounds like it's at the "big e" fairgrounds in Springfield. I go to equine affaire there in nov. You can make there in about 3-4 hrs. I've never taken the ferry.

Do you have any pictures of your playset turned coop?

It is at the Big E. There is the poultry show in Nj that many of us go to. It is twice a year.Jersey hen will be on to give you the scoop.the one in Springfield is mind blowing.they have venders, a section where people sell birds, a Chinese auction, lectures and of course a zillion birds to look at. New jersey is the same but on a smaller scale. NJ also takes place at a better time of year weather wise.
I'm originally from upstate NY so unless there is a blizzard I'm going.

Why isn't this iPad starting my sentences with upper case??

Stay warm today...

Holy crap I haven't been getting notifications so I log on and there's pages of posts I have missed. Ugh.
Happy New Year everyone. I sure hope this one is better than last. sigh.
The Congress has 3,300 birds entered at last count.
You can drive up 95 and take 91 north till Springfield, it's right there.
I take the ferry, it saves between 2-3 hours. 95 in CT is insane.

The Sussex NJ show is May 17th this year at the NJ State fairgrounds in Augusta.

I am planning on ordering a bunch of pullets and growing them out for anyone here that doesn't have a brooder.
Probably will be ordering from Meyer, possibly Ideal. Haven't decided yet.
If you want to get in on this, let me know what breeds you are interested in.
Just remember that not all the breeds you want will usually not all be available at the same time.
That's just the way it works.

There's a gal on facebook named Poe Blackbeard that specializes in the south american "land race" chickens.
Now to go check my private messages....

The NJ show is in Augusta at the NJ State Fairgrounds. There is one in spring (usually april) and one in fall (usually october). I don't think the exact dates are set yet. There are usually 500 - 700 birds there and a small vendor area and auction and bird sales area.

The ferry definitely saves time and breaks up the trip I just hate the running/rushing to catch the ferry because you have to book a certain time in advance, not really knowing how long we'll be staying. Can't really do an overnight stay because we have 2 dogs and would need someone to stay with them then. I would like to check it out though.

I am almost 100% sure I am going to the congress on the 18th. I am going to stay overnight so I can go to the comstock ferre and co seed store on Sunday in Wethersfield. I will likely be staying somewhere in Wethersfield Saturday night so that I can just get up on Sunday and pitter around the antique shops and such and drink a leisurely coffee. I will be driving from Northern NJ via 84 to 91 if anyone wants to drive with me, we can make arrangements. Anyone want to meet me at the seed store on Sunday? I think it is open until 4 PM.

Also, anyone want to seed swap? I would suggest at the show on the 18th since I just got my seeds in and am so anxious for spring, but I know a lot of folks don't have theirs yet. Perhaps we can set up a chicken/seed meetup sometime in early spring? It think we are all overdue for a live visit. If not, maybe in May at the sussex show (although that might be a bit late for some seeds). Thoughts?

Roberta, I am ordering a pile of birds too (already put in for some of them) to ensure I get what I want this year and am going to do a sales cage at the fall show as well (depending on how hatching and grow out goes this year). It will be great to hang out with you guys again. Those little silkies and showgirls are so snuggly. Our chat yesterday has me wanting to dedicate a pen to the showgirls and see how they do.. I have a perfect little 4x4 cooplette that would suit them. Nice little grassy run.
