Southern NY, Dutchess county and below

I cleaned the coop today by loading empty cat litter buckets w spent shavings and poop. I than tossed all that into a huge Rubbermaid garbage can that we are using until spring when we'll build a larger compost!

The thought of moving over 150 cubic feet of manure like that is just too much for me to get my head around. That and I am not really supposed to be exerting myself. Not that I have really slowed down too much, but I don't want to invite the stroke either... I will wait for it to warm up and then hire my kid cousin to shovel it all out for me

For smaller jobs that sled thing is a great idea.i see people throwing plastic sleds out all spring.

Christina, please get someone to do it. Save your energy for new projects and gardening.

Having a crew coming today to dig...

Hiring a kid is a great idea! Do try to follow drs suggestions, you can build up gradually as things resolve.

Queen, I am so sorry to hear of your pipe problems. I hope you at least have a porta potty there. Or a hotel room...

Morning all,
Day 10 no toilet.... Hired a new company yesterday they came to start digging up my drive way and before the back hoe made it's first scoop, a guy from Suffolk county sewer stopped the job. He made them leave 'cause they weren't bonded or licensed. If this is not resolved by this evening, I am bringing a bucket of SHIrT to someone's office tommorow . I am done with this.

My silkie is broody again. She lays 2eggs and then I have to try and break her for a month or so.

Good morning all,

Still deep woods camping it here. Had a professional team come yesterday to clean out the crawl space. The best $1600. I have ever spent. I just couldn't do it myself. I should have called them the minute it happened, but who new. Hopefully today they can get the permit to start digging up my drive way.

Christina thanks for the offer. If I didn't have the girls I'd be there in a heartbeat. You might never get rid of me. We would have just too much fun.

My 2 New England girls are getting along great. My russian Orloff finally gave me an egg. She's from the Ideal group from last spring. Can't believe that from all those chicks from last spring I only have 2. That was a lot of work and money for just 2.

I can't pull up the potatoe site for some reason. Last year I grew potatoes and got a huge crop. I planted "masquerade" from Burpee. medium size , but the skin is purple and white mottled with a pale yellow flesh.some of the best tasting I've had. I gave some to Loretta and her customers went crazy for them. They sold out way before her red and Yukon gold. I have more ordered for this year. Two years ago I tried the potatoe bag and that didn't work that great. Don't know if it was the bag or the potatoes.

I'm going to try sweet potatoes this year. I always plant a few new things .
Does anyone know if I should remove the foot of snow from my garlic? Can't believe I should be putting peas in the ground in 3weeks.

Stay safe today everyone.

I think I might try the potatoe box as well. I just put in my seed orders but, shucks, I have to order more. LOL. I tried the potatoe bag as well and had not luck. I too am trying sweet potatoes this year. How many seed potatoes should be planted into this box?

Hopefully things are continuing to improve for you Queenchick16.

Oh no Queenchick, that's horrible.
I hope you get something resolved before the weekend! Meanwhile hopefully you have some sanitary options!
